John Newman is a 2005 third baseman/right handed pitcher from Lebanon Tennessee with a good physical build and square features at 6 ft. 2 200 pounds. He has an open to close approach with a toe tap trigger. He has strong arms and generates a lot of bat speed with a line drive swing plane. He is short to the ball and showed good power to the pull side. Defensively, he showed good footwork, and sets himself with an advanced approach. He showed some arm strength at 81 mph across the infield with good accuracy. He pitches from a 3/4 slot with a long arm action. His fastball topped out at 85 mph with some armside movement. His curveball showed a sharp 10-4 break at 72 mph, and is very deceptive. He is a good player with a solid bat and has good power projection at the next level. He ran a 7.15 showing some athleticism. John is a very good student.
