Tyler Blackstock is a 2011 C with a 5'10'', 170 lb. frame from Providence, NC who attends Bartley Yancey HS. He is a very young player but has some physical strength for his age. His best tool is his bat right now. Blackstock has some had strength and has a pretty good fundamental swing. He gets to his front side early and will occasionally reach for the ball but his timing was pretty good for a young hitter with wood in his hands. He took consistently good swings in the game and hit line drives around the field. Defensively, Blackstock threw 67 mph during drills with a best pop time of 2.25. He threw 2.40 during the games and his throw times would immediately improve with better direction to second base on his release. Blackstock didn't look as if he had handled older pitchers much receiving the ball, the higher velocities bothered him and he struggled to catch the ball smoothly. More experience will obviously help.
