2003 South Top Prospect Showcase
Marchant is an unsigned senior that was the biggest surprise of the showcase. He has a plus body at 6 foot 3 and 190 pounds and showed power and athleticism to his game. He ran a 6.80 in the 60, showed nice actions defensively in the outfield including 88 mph velocity on his throws. He swung the bat with Major League qualities. He controlled his bat well, hit deep line drives that carried far into the gaps and showed some serious bat-speed through the zone. He also displayed good instincts both in the field and on the bases. He does everything at or above Major League average. Maybe one of the top unsigned seniors in the Nation, he's for real! Possible sleeper in the draft next June. Gabriel is a good student.
