Jacob Esch is a 2008 SS/P with a 6'3'', 180 lb. frame from Chanhassen MN, who attends Cretin-Durham Hall HS. He has a tall and slender frame that is very projectable and has a young face as well. Esch is a good looking athlete who is a two-way prospect. On the mound, Esch has a balanced delivery and a high 3/4's extended release point. His arm works very easily on a downhill angle and has little effort at release. His fastball was steady at 85-86 mph with some boring action. Esch's breaking ball was a 74 mph slurve type curveball that had good shape and was sharp at times. He had good arm speed on his change up, although he tended to lower his release point on this pitch. Offensively, Esh hits out of a slightly closed stance and has solid bat speed. He's a selective hitter with a long, power type swing that he'll have to shorten against better pitching. Follow him both ways! Esch is an outstanding student.
