Alex Sortino is a 6'1" 210 pound 2006 right handed pitcher and corner infielder from Oceanside, California who attends El Camino High School. He is a strong thick kid with a large frame and build. Alex throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm and a good feel for the strike zone. He seems to be very effective when he keeps his fastball down. His fastball topped out at 77 mph and he showed very good command of it. He showed good feel for both his curveball and change up which were both in the 66-68 mph range. He threw 4 strong innings with 5 strikeouts and only a few hits. Sortino has a good feel to come get the good hops in the field. He has good footwork and mobility for a kid his size. At the plate, he hits with a wide base and has some good raw strength. He has good bat speed and likes to drive the ball deep. He seems to be a middle of the order type hitter who will drive in some runs.
