Drew Smith is a 2006 first baseman/catcher from Temecula Valley HS in Temecula, CA, with a 6'0", 210 lb. frame. He is a very strong and well put together player that has some catch and throw ability behind the plate. He shouldn’t have any trouble handling a pitching staff and taking charge. At first base he stays low fielding with good hands and moves well around the first base bag. Offensively he is a right handed hitter with a crouched stance. He is a strong middle of the line up type bat that can hit the gaps with ease. Smith does tend to get some lift into his swing and wouldn't lose much if he would concentrate on driving the ball hard somewhere on a line. His strength will help any well hit line drive carry. Smith is a solid offensive type player that you can rely on hitting runners in with his bat potential.
