2017 Top Prospects

John Swanda  RHP - 2017 - Des Moines, IA
Nebraska

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Nebraska commit was very impressive on the mound posting a showcase high, 93 mile per hour fastball. Swanda generated very good running action that proved to be overwhelming for hitters. The right handed pitcher relied primarily on his fastball, but flashed a very tight 10/4 curveball with late, sharp bite.

Gregory Bennett  MIF - 2017 - Peosta, IA
Middle Tennessee State/Iowa Western CC

Bennett showed some of the best pure athletic ability at the Spring Top Prospect Showcase. The Iowa Western Commit has excellent range in the infield with smooth glove actions and absolutely hammered the baseball to all fields utilizing a naturally leveraged swing in batting practice.

Adrian Cotton Jr  RHP - 2017 - Gretna, NE
Concordia University (Nebraska)

The talented two-way prospect continued to show his extreme upside for Concordia University (Nebraska). On the mound, Cotton Jr. topped at 89 miles per hour with heavy running action to the plate and a sharp, tight breaking ball. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder also generated huge power from the left side of the plate throughout batting practice.

Connor Schultz  RHP - 2017 - Cedar Falls, IA
Butler

Standing at 6-foot-4, the Butler commit generated very good downhill angle with his fastball that topped at 87 miles per hour. Schultz flashed some of his best feel and command for each of his off speed pitches, consistently mixing in his curveball, slider and changeup creating weak contact while missing barrels.

Izaya Fullard  3B - 2017 - North Liberty, IA
Iowa/Kirkwood CC

The Iowa native flashed his reliable, steady hands throughout defensive workouts. Ono-Fullard continues to mature into a very polished, knowledgeable hitter producing consistent hard line drive contact to all fields throughout the weekend.

Evan Reifert  RHP - 2017 - Wilton, IA
North Carolina/NIACC

The Wilton, Iowa native produced good movement with each of the pitches showing good feel to consistently work to each edge of the plate. Reifert primarily worked ahead of hitters with a fastball that topped at 87 miles per hour and utilized his large sweeping slider that created plenty of swings and misses.

Jordan Wendel  C - 2017 - Schaller, IA
Butler

The 2017 Butler commit consistently stayed behind the baseball that allowed for hard contact to all fields. Wendel continues to add strength throughout his frame that is transitioning nicely into his swing, generating serious gap to gap power.


2018 Top Prospects

Clayton Nettleton  RHP - 2018 - Davenport, IA
Kirkwood CC

The University of Iowa commit repeated a long, fluid arm action that produced good downhill plane through the zone with a fastball that topped at 90 miles per hour. Nettleton's curveball had very tight rotation with late depth that created consistent swings and misses.

Luke Patzner  RHP - 2018 - Urbandale, IA
Heartland CC

The 2018 right handed pitcher showed very good life through the zone with a fastball that topped at 90 miles per hour. Flashed very good curveball potential with tight, sharp depth. Also showed good feel form a sinking changeup with running action to arm side in the upper 70's to low 80's.

Connor Van Scoyoc  RHP - 2018 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Arizona State

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound right handed pitcher has continued to grow into an impressive athletic build. Van Scoyoc utilized a clean, repeatable arm slot that generated a heavy running fastball in the mid to upper 80's, topped at 87 miles per hour. Showed a very deceptive arm action with changeup and slider that proved to be very difficult for hitters to pick up.

Brayden Frazier  IF - 2018 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Iowa

Frazier, a University of Iowa commit, showed polished defensive actions and mature actions at the plate. The 2018 grad aggressively attacked the baseball throughout batting practice and game play producing explosive contact to all fields.

Keaton Duckett  RHP - 2018 - Johnston, IA
Southeastern CC

The 6-foot-1 right handed pitcher topped at 89 miles per hour from a high three-quarters arm slot that generated some cross fire action at release. Created good deception with a changeup offering by matching arm speed and producing some fading action in the mid to upper 70's.

Kade Vander Molen  SS - 2018 - Pella, IA
Iowa Western CC

Primary shortstop but really impressed while on the mound at the Spring Top Prospect Showcase. Vander Molen topped at 87 miles per hour with a fastball that showed steep downward angle through the zone. Curveball had 12/6 shape with sharp, late depth in high velocity band.

Nic McCay  RHP - 2018 - Carlisle, IA
South Dakota State

The 2018 Carlisle, Iowa native consistently changed speed while pounding the strike zone. Worked ahead of hitters early with a fastball that topped at 87 miles per hour. Flashed very good feel for an 11/5 curveball and fading change up as well. Consistently generated swings and misses while effectively staying off hitters barrels.

David Mendham  C - 2018 - Dorchester, ON CAN
South Carolina/Connors State College

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound catcher from Canada flashed a very repeatable, consistent swing plane that generated hard contact to all fields during batting practice. Mendham also showed the present bat speed and strength to turn the barrel and work to pull side with authority.

Jaden Rolffs  C - 2018 - Pella, IA

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound catcher showed a compact, direct swing path that created good leverage at the point of contact. Generated very good extension when working to the middle of the field that produced tight backspin off the barrel.

Trever Brown  RHP - 2018 - Gilbertville, IA
Kirkwood CC

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound right handed pitcher showed good arm speed through extension from a high three-quarters slot. Brown topped at 87 miles per hour producing heavy run at times. Flashed ability to elevated fastball and finish hitter with a sharp 12/6 breaking ball.

Thomas Grilli  C - 2018 - Mississauga, ON CAN
Panola College

The Canadian shortstop generated aggressive lower half shift into contact that created very loud, hard contact that exploded off the barrel in batting practice. When on time, Grilli flashed serious raw power that projects consistent home run potential.

Will Nigut  RHP - 2018 - Des Moines, IA

The 6-foot-4 right handed pitcher of Des Monies, Iowa repeatedly filled the strike zone with a heavy fastball to flashed good downward angle topping at 87 miles per hour. Created sharp depth with a 10/4 curveball when working in higher velocity band

Zach Smith  1B - 2018 - Jeffersonton, VA

Smith was very impressive at the plate and on the mound at the Spring Top Prospect Showcase. At the plate, Smith showed very good barrel control through the zone and consistently punished the baseball to all fields. While on the mound, topped at 87 miles per hour with sink and run to arm side. True 12/6 curveball was good depth when staying on top of offering.

The 2018 shortstop showed very athletic footwork while working to and through the baseball with extended range to glove side, posted at 6.65 sixty-yard dash. While at the plate, Ashley flashed the ability to work to all fields with good pop on a level, line drive plane.

Jarrett Blunt  RHP - 2018 - Ottumwa, IA
Iowa Central CC

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound right handed pitcher has a lean, very projectable frame. While on the mound, Blunt generated good plane to the plate with a fastball that topped at 85 miles per hour. Flashed an 11/5 curveball and sharp, sweeping slider. Projects for continued velocity, topped at 90 miles per hour while throwing from the outfield in defensive workout.

Jacob Bockenstedt  RHP - 2018 - Cedar Rapids, IA

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native showed a long, clean arm action from a high three-quarters slot. Utilized lower half well while driving to the plate generating good jump with a fastball that got on hitters quickly, topped at 88 miles per hour.

Drew Bump  RHP - 2018 - Carver, MN

Good arm quickness through extension from a compact, high three-quarters arm slot. Bump's fastball topped at 86 miles per hour with solid downward plane through the strike zone. Changed speeds well by mixing in a short 11/5 breaking ball.

Austin Krob  LHP - 2018 - Lisbon, IA
TCU/Kirkwood CC

Repeated a high energy, long arm action that created good sinking life through the zone topping at 85 miles per hour. Changeup flashed plus potential, creating late fading life to arm side in the upper 70's. Showed ability to fill the zone and work to each edge of the plate when maintaining tempo.

Luke Llewellyn  RHP - 2018 - Urbandale, IA
Iowa/Kirkwood CC

Llewellyn, a 6-foot-4 right handed pitcher from Urbandale, Iowa created very good downhill angle to the plate from a near over top arm slot. Fastball really jumped through the zone with heavy actions topping at 86 miles per hour and aggressively attacked the strike zone.

Leo Markotic  3B - 2018 - Mississauga, ON CAN
Jefferson College

The 5-foot-11 shortstop of Canada showed clean, polished actions throughout defensive workouts with the ability to throw from multiple arm slots with accuracy. Markotic's most impressive tool was his hitting ability and continuously punished the baseball with very good bat speed. The 2018 grad showed an aggressive mentality at the plate and swung with intent to drive the ball through the gaps.

Jevon Mason  OF - 2018 - West Des Moines, IA
Iowa Western CC

The 2018 grad showed athletic actions throughout the day while posting a 6.69 sixty-yard dash on a cool day. Mason showed very quick hands through the zone with the ability to work to the pull side gap with good jump off the barrel.

Ryne Schooley  LHP - 2018 - Iowa City, IA
Wichita State/Iowa Western CC

The 6-foot-2 left handed pitcher utilized a simple side step delivery while staying tall and balanced on back side at gather. Schooley produced good sink with running action to arm side between 82-85 miles per hour. Consistently kept hitters off balance with ability to change speed and consistently pound the outer edge of the plate. The Iowa native also flashed good jump off the barrel at the plate generating hard line drive between the gaps.

Landon Vander Leest  1B - 2018 - Pella, IA
Northwestern College (Iowa)

The 6-foot-2 third baseman flashed quick footwork while solid range to both sides while working through the baseball with smooth, athletic actions. Vander Leest also posted a 60 yard dash time of 6.75. At the plate generated good leverage when working to pull side with the ability to split the gap when squared.

Jared Wegner  OF - 2018 - Kearney, NE
Creighton

Repeated a compact, line drive plane throughout batting with quick hands through extension. Swings with intent to drive the baseball with authority and flashed the barrel control to split each of the outfield gaps consistently.

Jack Wilson  RHP - 2018 - Iowa City, IA
Kirkwood CC

Wilson, a 6-foot-3 right handed pitcher utilized a simple side step delivery with slight hip tilt at balance. Worked to the plate creating good drive off the back side. Wilson's fastball jumped on hitter topping at 86 miles per hour with good life. The Iowa native's best pitch was a 12/6 curveball that had very tight spin with large depth.


2019 Top Prospects

Connor Reed  RHP - 2019 - Richland, IA
Iowa Western CC

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound right handed pitcher has a lean, athletic frame with plenty of room to continue to add strength. Reed primarily released from a three-quarters arm slot topping at 86 miles per hour, but also showed the ability to drop to a side arm angle and create a lot of running action. Constantly pounded the strike zone while changing speeds and kept hitter very off balance.

Jared Townsend  LHP - 2019 - Wilton, IA
Iowa Western CC

The 2019 left hander from Wilton, Iowa showed a high energy delivery with a quick arm through finish. Townsend's fastball flashed good cutting action to glove side topping at 84 miles per hour. Curveball generated good downward depth with 1/7 shape.

Tyler Shelley  SS - 2019 - Parker, CO
College of Marin

The Parker, Colorado native showed very mature, confident actions while at the plate. Shelley swing with extreme intent to drive the baseball on a level, line drive plane through extension. Consistently squared up baseball throughout batting practice and against live pitching.

Max Slavens  SS - 2019 - Bettendorf, IA
Western Illinois

The 2019 shortstop flashed athletic, efficient footwork throughout defensive workouts with good range to each side. At the plate, Slavens utilizes a simple, repeatable level swing plane that generated hard contact to all fields.

Sam Goodman  RHP - 2019 - Dubuque, IA

The 2019 grad was impressive during his outing on the mound running a running fastball up the 84 miles per hour with the ability to located to both sides of the plate. Primarily utilized his curveball as an out pitch creating consistent weak contact.

David McCabe  3B - 2019 - Courtice, ON CAN
University of North Carolina-Charlotte

The 6-foot-4 switch hitting third baseman flashed very good bat speed and strength with serious home run potential from both side of the plate. Consistently barreled up the baseball creating very loud contact to both gaps.


2020 Top Prospects

Carter Baumler  RHP - 2020 - Grimes, IA
TCU

The 2020 grad has a lean, athletic frame with plenty of room to add strength. Released from a high three-quarters arm slot generating good running action in the low to mid 80's, topped at 86 miles per hour. Consistently filled to zone with a slider, curveball and fading changeup. Baumler is a name to follow very closely moving foward.

Calvin Harris  C - 2020 - Peosta, IA
Mississippi

The 6-foot, 2020 grad showed very good barrel control throughout the zone with the ability to hit multiple pitch types with pop. Harris flashed very quick hands with the ability to handle fastballs in the upper 80's to low 90's.

Jorge Figueroa  SS - 2020 - Gurabo, PR
New Mexico/Wabash Valley College

The Southlake, Texas product ran a 6.79 sixty-yard dash while showing very athletic, polished actions in the infield. At the plate, Figueroa has a very good plate presence paired with a repeatable swing plane. Consistently worked the ball to all fields throughout batting practice and games.

Edison Ramos  OF - 2020 - Hurst, TX
New Mexico Junior College

The 2020 outfielder from Euless, Texas flashed an smooth, easy line drive swing plane while utilizing a mid field approach. Threw the barrel to baseball well with the ability create solid bat speed when working to the pull side gap.

Andrue Henry  1B - 2020 - Dubuque, IA
Kirkwood CC

The 2020 third baseman continues to add strength to his frame with translates nicely into his naturally leveraged swing plane. Henry flashed good extension with the ability to create tight backspin off the barrel when working to the middle of the field.


2021 Top Prospects

Ian Moller  C - 2021 - Dubuque, IA
Louisiana State

The 6-foot, 170-pound catcher flashed very advanced tools throughout defensive workouts and at the plate. Moller creates good natural leverage through the zone with plenty of present bat speed to split the outfield gaps. The Iowa native has a very high ceiling and will be a name to follow very closely as he continues to mature.

Braden Montgomery  OF - 2021 - Madison, MS

The 2021 grad was fundamentally sound throughout the weekend showing smooth, athletic footwork and a easy swing plane. With continued physical maturity, Montgomery will continue to develop into a good next level prospect.
