2010 Top Prospects

Dale Carey  OF - 2010 - Marietta, GA
Miami

The 6-3, 170 lb Carey is an easy choice as the showcase’s top prospect. He’s a 6.68 runner who was the highest graded defensive player at the showcase and one of the best hitters as well. He has a high national level type ceiling in the 2010 class.

Christian Pfaff  RHP - 2010 - Rutherfordton, NC
Uncommitted

Pfaff threw 87-89 mph off the mound but his plus power and bat speed give him a brighter future as a hitter. He’s a solid 6-3, 200 lbs with a big league third baseman’s build.

Logan Thomas  SS - 2010 - Liberty, SC
Uncommitted

The PG staff was split on whether Thomas was a better infield prospect with an aggressive powerful bat or a hard throwing right handed pitcher with a projectable 88 mph fastball and hammer curveball.

Brandon Allen  RHP - 2010 - Milton, FL
Auburn

Allen is 6-5, 180 lbs but has surprising strength with the bat and is a 6.6 runner besides. If he gets to long to keep growing as a position prospect, he already throws in the mid-80’s off the mound with a sharp slider.

Zachary Gawrych  OF - 2010 - Tampa, FL
Tampa

Gawrych keeps getting stronger and bigger every time we see him and the results are showing in his bat speed and ability to drive the ball. Throw in his 6.6 speed and you have a top prospect.

David Perkins  MIF - 2010 - Jacksonville, FL
Duke

Perkins had a leg injury that limited his defensive evaluation but there was no mistaking his hitting ability. If his defense in the middle infield measures up, his prospect status will go up as well.

Zach Waters  RHP - 2010 - Woodstock, GA
Uncommitted

Waters has a long, lean and athletic body that projects, especially for a catcher. He’s a top level hitter at any position, with a simple, efficient swing and gap power that should continue to grow.

Sebastian Gomez  MIF - 2010 - Miramar, FL
Uncommitted

Gomez’s ballplayer/gamer approach to the game makes his raw tools play better than the numbers show. Plus, he can really hit and that’s a bonus to any middle infielder.

Niko Goodrum  OF - 2010 - Jonesboro, GA
Kennesaw State

Goodrum looks like a top level basketball player with a very long 6-3 build, but he has easy tools and athletic actions and surprisingly polished baseball skills. Centerfield looks like his position but don’t rule out left side infield.

Brandon Lawing  OF - 2010 - Huntsville, AL
Uncommitted

Lawing is a tightly wound strong build and the kind of strength and bat speed you’d expect looking at him. He has some lift in his swing and the ball jumps off his bat.

Ben Lively  RHP - 2010 - Gulf Breeze, FL
University of Central Florida

Lively topped out at 85 mph on his fastball but has a loose, easy delivery and a young 6-2, 170 mph frame that will enable him to easily add more velocity. His curveball was a potential second weapon.

Edwin Reyes  SS - 2010 - Madison, AL
University of Alabama at Birmingham

Reyes offensive potential as a middle infielder is his biggest plus, as he could hit with impressive power when he fills out his 6-2, 175 lb frame. He also has potential on the mound.

Micah Thompson  OF - 2010 - Tallapoosa, GA
Uncommitted

Thompson is very projectable at 6-3, 170 lbs and could end up as either an power hitting right fielder or a pitcher with a good feel for three solid pitches.

Patrick Dodson  OF - 2010 - Huntsville, AL
Uncommitted

Dodson is only 5-9, 160 but his bat is his best tool and he has more juice in his swing than you would expect. He’s also a 6.9 runner who should be a very good top of the order/centerfield type.

Grant Newsome  OF - 2010 - Alpharetta, GA
Michigan State

Newsome has a good balance of defensive and offensive tools and is very athletic. He can turn on good fastballs on the inside half and how he develops his power will be key.

Andrew Valencia  C - 2010 - Miami, FL
South Florida

Valencia will have to keep his body in check but he has high level tools to develop. He has the power and approach to hit plenty of home runs over the course of his career.

Paul Patterson  OF - 2010 - Peachtree City, GA
Southern Union State CC

Patterson fits the leadoff/centerfield mold at the next level, with 6.8 speed and very good outfield range, along with a quick left handed bat.

2011 Top Prospects

Daniel Gossett  RHP - 2011 - Lyman, SC
Clemson

Gossett is 5-11, 155 lbs and looks even younger than listed, but he throws 85-87 mph very easily and should throw very, very hard in a couple of years. He’s also a infield prospect with impressive hitting tools.

Dylan Bosheers  SS - 2011 - Lawrenceburg, TN
Uncommitted

Bosheers is very young and still slender at 5-11, 145 lbs, but all the tools and skills are there for a top middle infield prospect. He plays with aggressive confidence beyond his years.

2012 Top Prospects

Max Foody  LHP - 2012 - Ponte Vedra, FL
Florida State

Foody just entered high school but he already sits at 84-85 mph with a hard biting 72 mph curveball. He also graded out among the top outfielders at the showcase and can swing the bat, so his athleticism will be a plus, too.
