6/3/2018

Caleb Hollis (2019 RHP, Mission, TX) showed a lot of strength and the ability to turn the barrel well over the inside part of the plate with a smoked double to the pull side. There is good strength to the frame and swing and he was on time to drive the fastball effectively.

Medrick (MJ) Morgan (2019 OF, Round Rock, TX) collected a couple of hits on the game including a hard hit double to the pull side gap. Morgan has a mostly flat barrel path with some present bat-to-ball skills and has the frame and approach for projectable power.

Fischer Kingsbery (2020 RHP, Round Rock, TX) demonstrated effective plate coverage and some opposite field power with a two-run double in the first inning of the game. Kingsberry kept his weight back well and extended out in front to drive in both runners.

Matthew Kushwaha (2019 OF, Houston, TX) has a strong frame with strong wrists and can impact the ball with significant strength through the point of impact as a result. Kushwaha also added a stolen base of third showing good instincts and stole it right off the pitcher.

Luke Robertson (2021 1B, Frisco, TX) is a very projectable righthanded pitching prospect with a loose and easy delivery and a fastball up to 82 mph. The breaking ball shows sharpness and velocity while he racked up swings-and-misses on the pitch and XX strikeouts total during a short stint.

Billy Decker (2019 3B, The Woodlands, TX) has a physical stature and that allows him to drive the ball with authority and jump off the barrel. There is some leverage to pull in Decker's swing and he creates solid pull side pop when squared as a result; he smoked a double in game to pull.

Grey Neal (2020 3B, Hotchkiss, CO) showed good strength off the barrel and the ability to handle a high fastball when he drove a double over the head of the centerfielder during the game.

Caden Queck (2020 SS, Montgomery, TX) showed very projectable and intriguing pitching tools, with a good frame, quick arm, and life to the fastball that topped out at 84 mph. The breaking ball showed good shape with movement and there is a lot to like about the young arm.

John (JT) Tackett (2020 1B, Cypress, TX) is another projectable arm with a loose and easy arm stroke and the fastball touching 80 mph. He showed excellent feel for his changeup with late tumbling action that he sold very well.

Kyte McDonald (2019 OF, San Antonio, TX) has a smooth, level barrel path with some advanced contact skills as he was a tough at-bat and fought off tough pitches. McDonald showed good feel with a stolen base and also crushed an opposite field gap double.

Brooks Harrison (2020 OF, Kingwood, TX) notched two hits on the afternoon including one that drove in the runner from third base. He puts bat-to-ball effectively and also showed two-way potential by limiting hard contact and running his fastball into the mid-70s.

Alec Aranda (2020 1B, Houston, TX) posted a two-for-three day including a double to right-centerfield and a well hit single to center and a run scored.

Batting Practice Highlights, Part Two

6/2/2018

Brendan Solis (2021 3B, Victoria, TX) has a loose and projectable build and swing with a well timed right handed swing and a nice shift into contact.  He attacks and hits through the ball well and will keep improving as he gets stronger.

Trey Mongauzy (2020 SS, Austin, TX) and his twin brother Tyler Mongauzy (2020 OF, Austin, TX) both have good strength and strong swings for sophomores, with Trey having a bit better mechanics and execution at this point.  Both create bat speed and can put some jump on the ball.

Jonathan Spangler-Sakata (2019 C, Spring, TX) has a strong and compact build and a simple swing approach he executes well.  He showed gap to gap power with good extension and looseness through contact.

Hayden Norris (2020 3B, Montgomery, TX) has a compact and strong build for his age and a loose and strong swing that drove the ball hard to the middle of the field.

Ethan Hodges (2022 OF, Carrollton, TX) is really strong for his age and looks taller than his listed 5-9 height.  He over powered the ball a couple of times with very hard mid field to pull side contact and showed advanced bat speed.

Luke Robertson (2021 1B, Frisco, TX) hit a home run in the game today and the 6-3/170 right handed hitter showed that type of raw power potential in batting practice is well.  He's geared for lifting and pulling the ball but the body and tools are there to do it.

Austin Schaper (2019 RHP, Port Neches, TX) is a primary pitcher but has the bat speed and hand quickness to be a hitting prospect, too.  He settled in quickly and consistently showed pull power during his round.

Ravaughn Morgan (2020 OF, Pflugerville, TX) looks taller than his 6-2/175 build, with long levers that creates lots of barrel whip and carry off the barrel.  He was timed up from his first swing and has lots of projectable power.

Tyran Norris (2020 OF, Pearland, TX) has a very young and slender 5-11/145  build but very quick hands that get the barrel to the ball on time and with surprising jump.  If he can get stronger, he's got a real chance to hit at the next level.

Jack Hammond (2020 3B, Skiatook, OK) is part of the Owasso HS program that is annually among the top such programs in the country and that shows in the consistency and quality of their players swings.  Hammonds has nice bat speed for a sophomore and hits hard middle of the field line drives.

Bryce Yosko (2019 SS, Spring, TX) puts his full effort and body into his swing but creates unmistakable right handed bat speed, with hard pull to middle of the field line drive contact.

Cole Pulpan (2019 OF, Hockley, TX) looks taller than his listed 6-1/185 build and has a loose and fast right handed swing that projects very well.  He squared up the ball almost every swing and drove it hard to left and center fields.

Colby Thomas (2019 OF, Valdosta, GA) was one of the best hitters in the talent rich state of Georgia this spring and he showed why in BP, with a well controlled and very quick swing that drove the ball very well.  He probably had the best raw bat speed of the day.

Lance Hicks (2020 1B, Spring, TX) has big and strong hips, especially for his age, and uses them very well to generate lots of left handed bat speed, which led to hard line drive pull side contact.

Zachary Easterling (2020 RHP, Spring, TX) has an outstanding 6-3/185 build for a sophomore and a strong left handed swing that had him driving the right centerfield alley consistently.

Alec Aranda (2020 1B, Houston, TX) is a very strong 6-0/200 sophomore who keeps his swing short and direct and who got in a good hitting rhythm quickly while showing left centerfield lift.

Billy Decker (2019 3B, The Woodlands, TX) is a strong 6-2/190 right handed hitter with a very sound hitting approach and the ability to drive the ball to all fields.  His maturity and consistency at the plate really stood out.

Daunte Stuart (2019 SS, The Woodlands, TX) wasn't consistent in his swing approach but he has a very twitchy athletic build and swing and showed lots of bat speed and pull pop when everything came together for him.  He will continue to improve.

Aaron Calhoun (2021 RHP, Pearland, TX) is a young and slender freshman pitcher but definitely has the hitting tools to develop into at least a two-way prospect, if not a primary position player and hitter.

Canon Chester (2022 1B, Sinton, TX) was one of many talented eighth grade hitters at BP today and has lots of present strength on a very nice 6-2/190 build, with plenty of natural lift in his swing.

Luke Roden (2019 OF, Keller, TX) had one of the best rounds of the day, with a short and very quick left handed swing and a very simple approach that timed up immediately.  He's 5-10/155 but with impressive bat speed  and hand strength.

11-Royal vs. 12-White Game Highlights

6/2/2018

Mitch Gardner (2020 RHP, Allen, TX): Gardner was excellent in this game, consistently keeping hitters off balance by mixing in a sinker, breaking ball, and changeup--all for strikes. He went three shutout innings allowing only two hits and striking out three.

Tyler Mongauzy (2020 OF, Austin, TX): Monguazy showed some serious offensive ability, collecting multiple hits, including a double into the left center field gap. He's got a nice combination of strength and bat speed at this age.

Garrett Oakley (2020 LHP, Bowie, TX): Oakley turned in an excellent performance on the mound, using excellent funk and deception--and throwing from a very extended sidearm angle--to consistently challenge hitters and elicit weak contact. He threw three shutout innings, allowing only a single hit.

Dylan Kimsey (2020 RHP, Texas City, TX): Kimsey showed a very good approach at the plate, waiting back on breaking balls before lining a loud line drive triple up the opposite field gap, showing both a quick bat and quick feet as he rounded the bases.

Ernesto Reyna (2020 2B, Houston, TX): Reyna showed very consistent contact skills with a quick stroke and good hands, picking up a couple of base hits. He also threw a perfect 10th inning on the mound.

Ian Guthrie (2020 C, Austin, TX): Guthrie made some of the better contact in this game, picking up a couple hits including a double, showing a very nice whole field approach.

Batting Practice Highlights Part One

6/2/2018

Travis Sanders (2022 SS, Copperas Cove, TX) is a young right handed hitter with a good coiled loat and a loose swing and some jump and lift to the middle of the field.  He has good present bat speed and projects very well.

Drew Woodcox (2020 SS, Houston, TX) has good strength for a sophomore and creates lots of present bat speed, with some real jump off the bat.  When he learns to turn the barrel more there could be big power there.

Easton "Bo" Willis (2019 C, Magnolia, TX) has been a regular on the showcase circuit for a while and has established himself as a very strong right handed hitter.  He has a simple and repeatable swing approach with bat speed and had an outstanding BP round.

Dalton Bourgeois (2019 OF, Cypress, TX) and Nick Crespo (2019 C, Alpine, TX) are left handed and right handed hitters, respectfully, with similar high contact, high average hitting approaches that are mechanically sound and square up the ball consistently.  They will continue to improve as they get stronger.

Jose Vargas (2022 SS, League City, TX) is a young left handed hitter with a very projectable 6-2/160 frame and a loose, extended swing with very good bat speed for his age and build.

Tyrone Tubbs (2019 RHP, New Orleans, LA) switch hit in batting practice but the primary right handed pitcher is much more advanced from the right side, with prospect level raw bat speed and power potential.

Luke Banister (2020 C, Round Rock, TX) has a pronounced pull approach from the right side but he executes it very well and consistently and really squared the ball up hard and often.   He wore out the left field fence, when hit didn't clear it and damage car roofs, and had an outstanding round.

Connor Beichler (2019 SS, Owasso, OK) is a switch-hitter who is more advanced from the right side, with a loose, extended swing and consistent hard middle of the field contact.

Caeden Trenkle (2019 OF, Hillsboro, TX) has very strong hands and was one of the better hitters at using his lower half well to generate bat speed and consistent time.  The result was very hard contact and plenty of left handed bat speed.

Angel Rodriguez (2019 3B, Tyler, TX) is going to have to tighten up his big body for the next level but he has a surprisingly loose swing that really puts his strength in play.  We can imagine that he crushes high school level pitching.

Alexander Olivo (2019 1B, Pasadena, TX) is another thick chested and extremely strong right handed hitter who can really impact the ball hard and has a chance to hit with power at the next level with hard work.

David Valoy Jr (2020 C, Arlington, TX) has an aggressive rotational right handed swing with lots of present bat speed and ability to drive the ball and the potential to improve with some simple adjustments.

Benjamin Greer (2019 OF, Pearland, TX) is a rare young switch-hitter with prospect level bat speed from both sides of the plate.  His swing is geared for lift and power and his body is set to really grow and get stronger, a nice combination.

Logan Treichel (2019 3B, Cypress, TX) has a solid build and short swing with sound mechanics and the ability to drive the ball hard over and over to the middle of the field.  He has a good idea of how to hit.

Hambleton Oliver (2019 RHP, Corpus Christi, TX) is a big and strong right handed hitter and primary pitcher who has a pronounced lift and pull approach at the plate but also has the strength and bat speed to do it successfully.  He'll run into and crush some balls.

William Isaly (2020 C, Houston, TX) has a long and very projectable 6-2/187 build for a sophomore and a loose swing that will definitely keep gaining bat speed as he continues to get stronger.

Dylan Savino (2019 RHP, Westlake Hills, TX) has big arm strength from the outfield and the mound but he's also a good athlete with plenty of right handed bat speed at the plate.

Renard Smith Jr (2019 OF, Katy, TX) has quick twitch hands with a simple and repeatable swing approach and showed consistent gap to gap line drive contact with some carry.

Creed Willems (2021 C, Aledo, TX) is extremely strong for a freshman and that strength shows well from both sides of the plate.  His right handed swing is simpler and shorter but he can still impact the ball from the left side.

James Grantland (2019 OF, Port Lavaca, TX) has a short swing for a hitter his size and lots of strength behind his left handed swing.  He looks to pull the ball and has plenty of power and ability to drive the ball.

Luke Hill (2022 SS, Port Allen, LA) is only 5-9/142 but the very young right handed hitter has a very solid idea how to hit the ball and a short and crisp swing with a nice shift into contact to use that.  He projects very well at the plate.

7-Navy vs 8-Orange Game Highlights

6/2/2018

Hambleton Oliver (2019 RHP, Corpus Christi, TX) pitched at 86-88 MPH with his fastball with a quick arm action.  He was aggressive with his fastball and flashed some power action on an 11/5 curveball at 76.  He also swung the bat well making hard barrel contact at the plate.

Jacob Davis (2020 RHP, Spring, TX) pitched at 78-83 MPH with more velocity to come with some adjustments.  He threw a slower curveball at 57-61 MPH for strikes that showed some promise if thrown harder.  He also hit a hard double down the right field line to lead off the game.

Tuffy Dornburg (2019 C, Goliad, TX) hammered a hard double down the left field line.  He also hit another ball hard to centerfield and stretched it out into his second double of the game.  He's got a good swing with bat speed and strength in his swing.

Devon Patel (2019 RHP, Spring, TX) pitched at 82-84 MPH with a clean easy arm action.  The ball comes out of his hand clean and he projects for more velocity.  Patel repeats his delivery and threw a lot of strikes.

Cory Olive (2020 2B, The Woodlands, TX) made a very nice play at 2B to his glove side in shallow right field, spun and threw the runner out at first base robbing him of a single.

Jacob Terwilliger (2019 OF, Fairview, TX) hit a hard line drive single and showed good bat speed.  He pitched at 81-83 MPH with his fastball with a quick arm action.

9-Purple vs. 10-Red Highlights

6/2/2018

Dylan Savino (2019 RHP, Westlake Hills, TX) showed off electric arm speed while working his fastball 86-88 and topping out at 89 mph. Savino is athletic and projects nicely while flashing a breaking ball with 11/5 shape that was thrown for strikes effectively. He also added a long home run to the pull side later in the game.

Wyatt Young (2019 3B, Houston, TX) is a physical presence in the batter's box with plenty of bat speed and hand quickness to show off his pull side pop. Young has a strong swing with some leverage to pull and laced a smoked double to the pull gap that scored two while later smoked a no-doubt shot to deep left.

Ryan Leary (2021 RHP, Liberty Hill, TX) showed excellent command and execution of his 80-82 mph fastball to both sides and flashed late arm side run. Leary showed a polished repertoire with a good breaking ball whose shape he could manipulate and a straight changeup; he struck out five in three innings.

Conner Stewart (2021 C, Longview, TX) collected two hits during the game this evening and in the process showed off good contact skills. Stewart knocked two hits to the opposite field which showed off his strong wrists and the ability and approach to use all fields.

Ethan Nixon (2019 1B, Madill, OK) collected two line drive hits on the day and also had a highlight reel diving catch to his left over at first base. Nixon has some strength through the point of impact and has solid instincts in all facets of the game.

Caleb Schulz (2019 2B, Houston, TX) notched a hustle-double on the afternoon on a ball to the left centerfield gap that saw the twitchy Schulz, 6.88 60-yard dash time, hustle to earn a double. The swing is short and direct to the ball with a clean swing plane and added a couple of stolen bases and a run scored.

Trey Rucker (2021 3B, Boerne, TX) went 2-3 with a double and a run scored. He makes solid to all fields.

Robert Fortenberry (2021 LHP, Frisco, TX) pitched 3 no hit innings while striking out 4. He filled the zone with an 83mph FB that showed good run. He also had good depth on his CB.

1-Black vs 2-Cardinal Game Highlights

6/2/2018

Hayden Tallman (2019 LHP, Owasso, OK) pitched at 82-84 MPH and hides the ball well.  He has a repeatable delivery and threw 3 pitches for strikes.  His curve ball gets good shape and depth to it at 71 MPH and he showed feel for it.

Dalton Bourgeois (2019 OF, Cypress, TX) swung the bat well with 2 hits on the game.  He hit a hard single up the middle and a double to the left center field gap.

Josh Wood (2019 RHP, Wylie, TX) pitched at 80-83 MPH with his fastball with a very fast paced delivery.  He located his fastball and threw 3 pitches for strikes.  Wood creates some deception with his delivery and gets good sink and run on his change up.

Collin Young (2020 C, Magnolia, TX) showed some catch and throw skills and put the ball on the bag to nail a stolen base attempt.

Matthew Trow (2020 RHP, Spring, TX) pitched at 80-83 MPH with some sink on his fastball.  He showed some arm speed and has a balanced repeatable delivery.  He threw his curveball at 73 MPH with 11/5 shape to it.  He also showed bat speed at the plate with a single to left field.

Nick Crespo (2019 C, Alpine, TX) made an impressive throw from his knees to catch a would be base stealer at 2B.  He popped a 2.12on the throw from his knees.

Carlos Samuel Marquez Ciavaldini (2020 RHP, Houston, TX) pitched at 82-87 MPH with his fastball with more velo to come.  The body projects well and the velocity does as well with some lower half adjustments.

3-Columbia Blue vs. 4-Gold Highlights

6/2/2018

Avery Schexnaydre (2019 RHP, Destrehan, LA) worked three fairly effective innings on the mound and got his fastball up to 83 mph with significant sink and run. He tunnels the pitch well with his sharp slider and also has very good feel for a tumbling changeup.

Tyrone Tubbs (2019 RHP, New Orleans, LA) showed off a nasty cutting fastball that worked up to 83 mph on the day. The pitch showed significant life and induced a number of swings and misses while flashing sharp depth on a curveball too. Tubbs worked to both sides and struck out three batters.

Aiden Olenjack (2021 OF, Willow Park, TX) made a heads up play early on, showing aggressive baserunning by taking second on a liner single to no-man's land that he used his legs to stretch into a double.

Luke Banister (2020 C, Round Rock, TX) showed some present bat speed and juice to the pull side of the field with a loud double that one-hopped the wall. The advanced arm strength and catch-and-throw skills were also on display as he backpicked a runner and threw another out trying to steal.

Stone Simmons (2019 RHP, Houston, TX) showed a very heavy, sinking fastball that was ran up to 87 mph on the afternoon with good life to both sides of the plate. He hides the ball well to create deception and the slider flashed two-plane snap and he showed very good feel for it, running it in the upper-70s with short bite.

Julian Brock (2019 C, Fulshear, TX) launched a long home run deep to the pull side for a no-doubt shot. The righthanded stick has lots of present power that plays very well to the pull side and showed impressive catch-and-throw skills too; he had four RBI during the game.

Thomas "Ben" Schoneman IV (2019 RHP, Albuquerque, NM) showed command to both sides of the plate with his fastball in the 83-85 mph range with significant arm side run. Schoneman also worked in a sweeping breaking ball and worked with an up tempo delivery with a bulldog approach.

Hagen Barcello (2019 3B, Houston, TX) worked well as a leadoff man and as a table settler with two hits on the day and two runs scored. Barcello has a clean swing and worked to the pull side on both singles while hustling to score in the first and then trotting on the second following Brock's home run.

Caeden Trenkle (2019 OF, Hillsboro, TX) showed off his speed earlier in the day with a 6.80 second 60-yard dash, and continued to do so with a blazing triple around the bases. The Oklahoma State commit has impressive bat speed and barrel control and showed his twitchy athleticism all day.

17-Grey vs 18-Purple Game Highlights

6/2/2018

Chris Garcia (2021 RHP, Athens, TX) pitched at 78-81 MPH with a short quick arm action.  The ball comes out of his hand clean and he projects for more velocity with a few adjustments.  He threw his 11/5 curve ball for strikes and he showed feel for it.

Zachary Easterling (2020 RHP, Spring, TX) pitched 83-87 MPH with a clean arm action.  He threw an 11/5 curve ball for strikes and it had some bite to it.  There's more velocity in there with improved lower half mechanics.  Easterling is a very interesting follow to see if he can make those adjustments.

Colby Thomas (2019 OF, Valdosta, GA) hit the ball hard and showed good bat speed.  The ball comes off his bat well when squared up.

Cole Pulpan (2019 OF, Hockley, TX) hit a hard opposite field triple over the right fielders head for an RBI.  He also hit a hard double to the left center field gap.  He showed some bat speed and barrel skills.

Bryce Lewis (2020 C, Spring, TX) hit a hard opposite field double down the right field line.

Bryce Yosko (2019 SS, Spring, TX) pitched at 85-88 MPH with a quick arm action.  He pitches with high effort and gets some run on his fastball.  Yosko threw his curve ball at 75 and his change up at 78 MPH.  His change up showed occasional good sink on it.  He also hammered a hard double to the right center field gap.

Jack Schell (2019 SS, Houston, TX) showed good defensive actions on the infield and made a few nice plays on the run.  He also had a single at the plate.

Joshua Keating (2019 3B, San Antonio, TX) hit a hard line drive up the middle that rolled for a double.  He showed good strength in his swing.

13-Black vs. 14-Cardinal Highlights

6/2/2018

Luke Robertson (2021 1B, Frisco, TX) crushed an elevated fastball for a home run deep to the pull side. Robertson extended well out in front of the plate to pull the ball and show off his righthanded power.

Fischer Kingsbery (2020 RHP, Round Rock, TX) worked his fastball up to 85 mph with good life in any direction. The righthander has a compact arm swing and is able to get downhill effectively, with advanced command to the arm side and featured a good curveball while striking out six batters.

Sergio Guerra (2021 SS, San Diego, TX) showed off really advanced skills on both sides of the ball with rangy, athletic actions and present pull side bat speed offensively. Guerra made a number of defensive highlights on the left side of the infield and added a couple of big hits including a double that one-hopped the wall.

Martin Rodriguez (2019 OF, Houston, TX) took advantage of a fastball over the inner half to drive it deep to the pull side for a run-scoring double. Rodriguez is a very athletic runner, 4.35 seconds to first, with a short, controlled swing and has present barrel skills.

Walker Kohler (2020 C, Austin, TX) collected a number of hits including hard hit singles to both fields. He showed good plate coverage to drive an outside pitch to left field and flashed some leverage and bat speed with a barrelled line drive single to the pull side.

Cole Ketzner (2020 C, Magnolia, TX) provides a physical presence in the batter's box with lots of strength through the point of extension and the ball jumps off the barrel. Ketzner collected two hard hit singles on the afternoon, both to the pull side, and meets the ball out in front well.

Austin Schaper (2019 RHP, Port Neches, TX) worked a quick couple of frames on the mound topping out at 77 mph with a loose arm but was highlighted by his feel for manipulating the breaking ball. The pitch showed sharp action to it and could command it for strikes while manipulating shape as well; he struck out four over three innings.

Caden Queck (2020 SS, Montgomery, TX) has solid tools that play both offensively and defensively. Queck notched two hits on the afternoon: an infield single to the pull side while adding a hard hit line drive to pull as well. The range and fluidity stand out defensively.

Canyon Rollins (2020 SS, Grapevine, TX) notched a couple of singles on the day including that of an RBI infield single to show off the speed. His second hit was a bloop single but Rollins showed off good contact skills by putting the ball in play in evert at-bat.
