Pre Draft Showcase BP Highlights

5/16/2016

Kyle Crowl (2016 MIF, Council Bluffs, IA) possibly had to best round of the day. Kyle has excellent barrel control that resulted in hard, line drive contact throughout his batting practice round. He also shows to ability to turn the barrel to the pull side gap with excellent bat speed.

Nathan Prindle (2012 SS, Chatham, IL) has a smooth, pure hitting mechanics. Nathan shifts into contact well and produces solid bat speed that allows him to drive the baseball into both gaps. Also shows balance throughout his swing allowing for all fields contact.

John Swanda (2017 SS, Des Moines, IA) continues to show he is the next high level shortstop prospect in Iowa. John consistently drove to ball to all field throughout his round showing linear lower half actions and solid shift into contact. John's swing produces leverage and backspin to the pull side gap.

Brayden Frazier (2018 SS, Cedar Rapids, IA) was the youngest athlete at our Pre Draft Showcase, but certainly held his own. Brayden gets excellent shift into contact with a leg lift trigger and swing with intent to drive the baseball through the gaps. He also shows a compact swing path with a mature approach at the plate.

Wesley Brooks (2016 1B, Suwanee, GA) has good strength throughout his body. Creates plus bat speed while the ball jumps off his barrel. Wesley shows very good balance throughout his swing while showing the ability to stay extended through contact.

Kenneth Cruz (2016 OF, Rochester, NY) shows an upright stance with a leg kick trigger. Kenneth has a very projectable, athletic frame with long limbs. Shifts into contact with a linear lower half and extended stride. Kenneth flashes plus bat speed with the ability to split the gaps with authority.

Joey Polak (2016 3B, Quincy, IL) showed one of the smoother swings on the day. Turns the barrel with into contact with ease creating excellent bat speed. Joey shows good fast twitch actions with loud, consistent contact to all fields.

Spencer Van Scoyoc (2016 LHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) would also be on that same list as Polak with smooth swings. Spencer has easy power to the pull side gap showing a naturally lofted swing plane. Usually we see his ability to turn on pitches inner half, but Spencer flashed his barrel control today, often driving the baseball to the opposite field alley.

Joe Acker (2016 OF, Waukesha, WI) flashed his plus hit skills and barrel control today. Joe produced solid contact to all fields throughout his round. Joe shows balanced throughout his swing with a gap to gap approach. Also flashed the ability to turn barrel with bat speed and show impressive pop for his size.

Ben Norman (2016 OF, Des Moines, IA) shows a compact, line drive swing plane and consistently squares up the baseball. Ben stays behind contact well with good extension allowing for all fields contact.

Travis Ray (2016 1B, Tallahassee, FL) put on an incredible show throughout batting practice. Travis has incredible bat speed with a naturally lofted swing plane that produces plenty of raw power. The baseball seemed to explode off the bat with ease as Travis produced three home runs and multiple hard line drive to the warning track.

Grant Judkins (2016 3B, Pella, IA) shows a slightly open stance with a leg kick trigger. Grant produces slight front side hip coil that produces torque at load. Shows a compact, line drive swing plane with present bat speed to all field. Consistently squared contact throughout round while flashing the ability to turn the barrel driving the baseball to the pull side gap.

Red vs Navy Game Highlights

5/16/2016

Dion Henderson (2016 LHP, Detroit, MI) sat 87-90 MPH from his long and extended three-quarter arm slot.  He made quick work in his two innings with only one runner reaching on an error.  The TCU commit has a very projectable and athletic build that should continue to get to fill out nicely. His curveball showed 1/7 shape with deep depth and good break. He also flashed a changeup at 78 MPH.

Jim Jarecki (2016 RHP, New Berlin, WI) tossed solid innings sitting 83-85 MPH topping out at 86 MPH.  Showed an easy, repeatable delivery with good downhill plane low in the zone with cutting action on his fastball and changeup.  Commanded extremely well to his glove side and mixed his pitches nicely.

Ben Norman (2016 OF, Des Moines, IA) showed quick hands at the plate and was able to show off his speed stealing second base on the first move.

Matthew Hasenbeck (2012 RHP, Eureka, MO) has an extremely large build and is a physical presence on the mound.  He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with long arm action.  He sat in the lower 90's with great plane and lived down in the zone.  He also showed are breaking slider and a changeup.  He projects very well and has the ability to succeed at the next level.

Adam Lukas (2016 RHP, Grafton, WI) was 89-91 MPH with good life on his fastball.  He has a long, lean build with a good slider he was able to command.  Lukas used his fastball well on the outer half and repeatable made his delivery simple and easy.  When working low in the zone, his changeup showed great deception.

Max McCay (2016 C, Carlisle, IA) smoked a line drive hard the other way that was caught by a fully extended leaping third basemen.  McCay shows good actions at the plate with good bat speed.

Kenneth Cruz (2016 OF, Rochester, NY) covered some serious ground in left-field making a nice diving catch in foul territory to end his half of the fourth.

Nathan Prindle (2012 SS, Chatham, IL) drove a ball deep to the opposite gap for an easy stand up double.  Ball jumped off the barrel well and he showed off some opposite field power.

Joe Acker (2016 OF, Waukesha, WI) doubled down the right field line showing off good speed and a quick step out of the box.  Acker has a short compact swing with quick hands and wrists.  He later roped his second double to the right-center field gap showing off good extension through the baseball and ability to hit the baseball well on the outer third.  In the 13th inning he was able to one hop the wall in the left-center gap for his third double.

Nikolas Constantakos (2016 RHP, Jupiter, FL) sat in the 88-89 MPH range from a shorter arm action and a high three-quarters arm slot.  He showed good arm speed with good sinking and arm side run on his changeup.  Has effort in his delivery with solid command of his pitches.

Keaton Winn (2016 RHP, Ollie, IA) uses his deceptive delivery to hide the ball making him very difficult to hit.  His fastball sat in the 89-91 MPH range and he showed a breaking ball at 74 MPH as his out pitch.

Spencer Van Scoyoc (2016 LHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) the tall, left-hander was up to 92 MPH and showed great pitch ability.  He showed his usual hammer curveball at 74 MPH and generated tons of missed barrels.  Van Scoyoc gets good leverage and has great arm speed from his loose, three-quarter slot.  His fastball has good life and even flashed a little cut action at times.  The ASU commit made easy work in his two innings.  He also showed a quick stick at the plate getting the barrel moving in his easy stroke for a hard pull side single to right-field. He later went on to drive the ball deep over the center fielder's head for a triple showing off some raw power and good leverage in his swing.

Grant Judkins (2016 3B, Pella, IA) topped out at 90 MPH on the bump and showed off lots of tools.  Judkins is a great athlete who showed a three pitch mix with good spin on the breaking ball.  He already shows good velocity with more to come as he continues to get on top of his fastball and mature.

Alec Marsh (2016 RHP, Milwaukee, WI) has great size and strength to his frame for such a young look.  The arm works very well and generates good extension out front.  Very good downhill plane was also displayed and was tough to square up topping out at 91 MPH.

Nick Morreale (2016 RHP, Lake Elmo, MN) showed he can get hitters to chase outside of the zone with his fastball climbing the ladder nicely.  He mixed in a curveball with solid depth and also ran his fastball up to 90 MPH.

Brayden Frazier (2018 SS, Cedar Rapids, IA) has a very good hit tool and does a nice job of consistently getting a barrel on the baseball.

Craig Konrardy (2012 OF, Waterloo, IA) tripled down the right field line.  Konrardy has a strong build and a very level bat path.  His swing stays short and compact and is able to stay on the ball for a long period of time through the zone.

Kole Kampen (2016 LHP, Fort Dodge, IA) was 87-89 MPH topping out at 90 MPH.  He showed some good arm side run on his fastball and was able to mix locations nicely. His off speed was also very impressive showing two different breaking pitches in his two innings with good break.

Brady Stover (2016 LHP, Huxley, IA) showed a four pitch mix and did kept hitters off balance, he sat 86-88 MPH and projects to add more velocity as he continues to develop.

Austin McNicholas (2016 SS, Austin, TX) showed off some hard pull side contact in his hard liner to left field.  McNicholas profiles well in the middle infield and has solid actions all around.

RJ Freure (2016 RHP, Burlington, ON) was up to 91 MPH with a quick tempo and worked downhill with his fastball.  Showed good arm side command and a good breaking curveball with 11/5 shape.  Mixed in a changeup in the 82-85 range with cutting action down in the zone.

Robbie Gordon (RHP, St. Louis, MO) lean build, has room to fill out, uses lower half well creating drive to the plate.  Showed a quick delivery with good tempo to the plate.   Has a good feel for his off speed pitches, his curveball had good bite and missed barrels.  The changeup was straight with plane down in the strike zone.  Was up to 92 MPH with his fastball.

Jalen Evans (2016 RHP, Warren, MI) showed a lot of raw tools on the mound in his outing.  He has a four pitch mix with good arm speed.  He worked in the 87-91 MPH with tight spin on his breaking balls.  Projects well as he continues to develop.  At the plate he smoked a loud double just shy of the wall for his third hit of the day.  Extremely good athlete that profiles well at multiple positions.

Tyler Roeder (2016 IF, Cedar Rapids, IA) was tough to keep off the bases and continues to grind out at bats each time we see him.  He was pesky on the bases stealing a bag and showed a good baseball IQ.  Better each and every time on the baseball field.

Jeffery Scott (2014 C, Forest, IN) swung the bat well all day and had a lot of hard hit baseballs.  He was good for two singles and showed good bat speed in games and during batting practice.

William Frank (2016 RHP, Grand Island, NY) worked both sides of the plates nicely and was up to 91 miles per hour. He had good life on his fastball and a curveball with tight rotation.
