Royal vs. White Highlights
8/18/2019
Aidan Forster (2020 RHP, Spotsylvania, VA): Forster was excellent on the mound in a dominant performance, allowing just one hit over 3 innings. He pounded the zone with his fastball in the 74-78 mph range with solid life, mixing in a slider and a curveball that both missed bats. He also picked up a solid base hit in one at-bat and then found another barrel in his second, flying out deep to center field.
Michael McKinney (2022 SS, Sophia, WV): McKinney scored the lone run in this contest, singling to right field on a line, advancing to second on another hit, stealing third, and then scoring on a passed ball. His speed and aggressiveness play well on the bases and he projects well overall.
Caleb Bowers (2021 C, Durham, NC): Bowers got on the mound in relief was solid, running his fastball up to 81 mph with solid arm side life and throwing a good amount of strikes while missing bats up in the zone. He also continued to play well defensively at third base, consistently making the routine play and showing off his strong arm across the diamond.
White vs. Red Highlights
8/18/2019
Branton Jernigan (2022 C, Wilmington, NC): Jernigan had a very good day with the bat, showing excellent barrel skills by squaring up a line drive double the opposite way followed by a line drive single to the pull side. He also showed good instincts and aggressiveness on the bases by stealing a couple bags.
Caleb Bowers (2021 C, Durham, NC): Bowers has solid juice to the pull side and showed it off in this game, first by hitting a rocket of a ball that hooked foul then following it up with a hard liner down the line that he got a double out of. He's strong and that strength plays in his swing, the ball jumps when he squares it up. He also made an excellent diving stop at third base and showed off legit arm strength on the throw across to nab the runner.
Blake Lauria (2022 C, Myrtle Beach, SC): Lauria had a big swing in this game, getting an elevated fastball and driving it into the left center field gap for an RBI double. There's a good combo of directness and bat speed to his stroke, allowing him to get barrel on balls all over the zone.
Brooks Brannon (2022 C, Winston-Salem, NC): Brannon has had a very loud weekend with the bat overall, starting with BP on Friday night and continuing all weekend. He squared up a loud double up the left-center field gap in this one, continuing to show big time strength with excellent carry off the barrel and real power.
Royal vs. Red Highlights
8/18/2019
Josh Carrico (2020 3B, Alpharetta, GA): Carrico continued his hot-hitting ways in this game, turning on a pitch and lining a missile of a double up the right-center field gap. He's had a loud weekend with the bat and has been very consistent with it, with very good overall upside as a lefthanded hitter.
Raymond Ladd (2023 RHP, Blacksburg, VA): A very physical rising freshman, Ladd was impressive in his three inning outing. He ran his fastball up to 83 mph with angle to the plate, doing a nice job of throwing strikes, and mixing in a quality slider with bite across the zone. He's a really interesting '23 follow.
Bryson Willis (2021 OF, Morehead City, NC): Willis had a very nice round of BP on Friday night and has continued that hitting all weekend, both Saturday and Sunday. He picked up two more hits in this one, including a line drive single over the 2nd baseman's head and then a hard-shot double up the left-center gap. The bat-to-ball skills have impressed all weekend long.
Wagner Morrissette (2022 OF, Whitsett, NC): Morrissette's physical projection and arm speed stand out, loose and whippy producing fastballs up to 83 mph as well as a slider that has good bite. He's got pretty quality upside on the mound as he continues to physically mature. He also flashed a changeup that had some good fade to it.
Charley Hegeman (2022 C, Cary, NC): Hegeman struck the decisive blow late in the game, lining a shot down the right field line for a 2-RBI triple. He also was solid on the mound, throwing a hitless pair of innings with 3 strikeouts, keeping hitters off balance with a very nice fastball/breaking ball combo.
Red vs. White Highlights
8/17/2019
Payton Green (2021 SS, Cary, NC): Green has stood out all weekend in every facet, and has played extremely well defensively in game actions. Offensively, he roped a single to the pull side in this one, and has nearly every hitting attribute scouts look for when it comes to evaluating and projecting future high-level offensive prospects.
Bailey Matela (2022 LHP, Norfolk, VA): Matela was dominant in his time on the mound, pounding the zone with a very quality and projectable three-pitch mix. He allowed just two hits and no walks in three innings with four punchouts, running his fastball up to 82 mph and really dominating throughout.
Josh Carrico (2020 3B, Alpharetta, GA): Carrico struck the loud shot of the weekend thus far, absolutely destroying a home run to the pull side that was gone as soon as it left the bat and carried way out to right field. The power in his lefthanded swing is evident and there's significant offensive projection to his profile overall as well.
Brooks Brannon (2022 C, Winston-Salem, NC): Brannon opened eyes during his BP round on Friday night and continued that into game action on Saturday, consistently taking good at-bats and roping a double pull-side in his second game. There is plenty of strength to his swing with big jump and carry off the barrel when square.
White vs. Royal Highlights
8/17/2019
Ryan Hench (2023 3B, Hillsborough, NC): Hench impressed on the mound as a rising freshman, running his fastball up to 82 mph with good life on it, mixing a power slider in the mid-70's with sharpness to the bite. He projects well and will be interesting to follow moving forward.
Nick Duncan (2020 RHP, Patrick Springs, VA): Duncan was very effective in his time on the mound, not allowing a run over 3 innings. He pitches effectively at the top of the zone in the low-80's, topping at 83 mph, with very good life. He also mixed in a solid curveball and a diving changeup.
Peyton St. Leger (2020 1B, Hampstead, NC): St. Leger picked up a loud double in this one, driving a ball to left field that he got a two-bagger on. He's got quality bat speed with projection for good power as he continues to physically mature.
Kaden Smith (2021 C, Reidsville, NC): Smith showed off his barrel skills in this game, finding two of them in a line drive to left that was caught and a hard grounder through the left side for a single. There's good strength to his frame and he does a good job of using it in game.
Charley Hegeman (2022 C, Cary, NC): Hegeman put a charge into one late in the game, going up and getting an elevated fastball and driving it up the left center field gap for a double, one of the few extra base hits in this contest.
Royal vs. Red Highlights
8/17/2019
Alex Smalls (2021 RHP, Charleston, SC): Smalls picked up 5 strikeouts in 3 innings, doing a very good job of both missing barrels and missing bats. He ran his fastball up to 83 mph with good life and mixed in both a sharp breaking ball and heavy-fading changeup. He also showed his two-way ability with the bat, picking up two loud barrels for base hits.
Jonathan Villa (2020 C, Lumberton, NC): Villa was very impressive with the bat in this one though the box score says he went hitless. He smoked a line drive back at the mound that the pitcher knocked down, then followed it up with a loud-barrelled fly ball to center field that was squared up. There is thunder in his hands and he's had a very good weekend overall with the bat.
Bryson Willis (2021 OF, Morehead City, NC): Willis has hitterish traits and showed them off both in BP and in game, controlling the barrel well and consistently squaring up the baseball. He picked up a solid base hit in this game to go along with a walk, showing a good approach which, when combined with the bat-to-ball skills, makes him a promising hitter in terms of projection.

He also picked up a pair of hits at the plate, showing off his two-way ability.
Joseph Fredericks (2023 OF, Chesapeake, VA): Fredericks showed well with the bat in this one, picking up a hard single, a second hard barrel that ended up being caught, and showing off his wheels on the basepaths with a stolen base and consistently good jumps.
Corey Adams (2021 2B, Richmond, VA): Adams had a really nice day at the plate, smoking a missile to center field that was run down and then lining another shot to shortstop later on. The hands work really well in the swing and he generates excellent bat speed, making him an offensive threat.
Cole Peverall (2021 RHP, Alexandria, VA): Peverall was very solid over his 3 frames, not allowing a hit and picking up a pair of punchouts. He ran his fastball up to 85 mph and mixed in both a slider and changeup that he threw for strikes and got empty swings on.
