13u PG Series: Day 1 Quick Hits

Julian Cazanas III (2024, Lehigh, Fla.) started on the mound for Mid Atlantic and looked sharp. Cazanas threw 2 1/3 innings allowing only one hit and striking out two. Cazanas has a very loose arm action and is very fluid on the mound. He likes to live down in the zone with his fastball which produces a lot of weak contact. His fastball has good downhill movement and is a ground ball pitcher. Cazanas is 5-foot-9, 140 pounds and he will be an exciting player to watch for the rest of the week.

Shortstop for the Deep South on Monday was Andy Iñiguez (2024, Miami, Fla.). Iñiguez looked very smooth at short making every play that came his way look easy. His hands are very soft and shows off a good arm across the diamond too. He showed off great athleticism on the field and at the plate. Iñiguez has a quick line drive swing with good bat speed, and he also has good pop to his pull side. Iñiguez went 1-for-2 with some good contact all day.

Marcus Burrell (2023, Temple Hills, Md.) had himself a day on the mound and at the plate. Burrell started on the mound for Northeast and threw three innings not allowing a hit or run and striking out five. As well as showing on the mound, He went 1-for-1 at the plate driving in three huge runs. Burrell lived on the outer half of the zone which produced his strikeouts and weak contact. He is a lefthanded hitter and pitcher and he showed off his athleticism all day looking like a solid ball player. Burrell showed some serious confidence on the mound and at the plate on Monday.

Starting left fielder for Northeast was Dallas Vaughan (2023, Upper Marlboro, Md.) and he showed good potential. With a very athletic and big frame, Vaughan is 6-foot, 170 pounds and shows good athleticism. Vaughan looked confident in the outfield running balls down with ease. At the plate, he has a good eye and looks for pitches that he can drive. Vaughan went 1-for-3 with one RBI and three walks on the day.

Another player that stood out Monday for Northeast was shortstop Michael McGee (2024, Norwell, Mass.). McGee plays a very good shortstop as he has soft hands and works through the baseball very well. He plays the game the right way and plays it hard. McGee has a compact swing and is a line drive hitter. He also has good pull-side pop as he showed off his strength and speed hitting a triple to left off the wall. McGee went 1-for-3 with one run scored.

Coming out of the pen for Northeast was lefthander Joey Fanelli (2024, Swedesboro, N.J.). Fanelli came onto the mound and worked quick and pounded the zone with strikes. He has a very smooth arm action and he had his fastball at 73-74 mph during his outing. He has good mechanics throughout his windup and delivery and his fastball has naturally lefty run to it also. He has some real swing-and-miss stuff and will be fun to watch the rest of the series. Fanelli threw two innings allowing only one hit and striking out two.



Game two starter for Northeast was Ryan Bailey (2024, Blauvelt, N.Y.) and he showed some great stuff on the mound. Bailey ran his fastball up to 81 mph a couple times in the first inning and then was sitting 78-79 for the rest of his outing. Bailey has great command with his fastball throwing a lot of strikes and getting ahead of hitters so he could use his off speed for strikeouts. Bailey’s slider is one of the best offspeeds of the tournament and threw it with good command. His slider was 67-68 mph with very sharp break which made hitters look silly. He has great feel on the mound and is very athletic coming off of the mound making plays too. Bailey threw 3 2/3 innings allowing only one earned run and striking out five.



Starting on the mound for South was lefty Mike Palenzuela (2024, Miami, Fla.). Palenzuela was lights out as he threw four innings allowing only one hit on no runs and striking out six. He has great mound presence as he works at a quick pace keeping hitters off balance. His fastball was 76-77 mph during his whole outing with his curveball being at 57 mph. He also showed good athleticism making plays off the mound fielding a couple of bunts. Palenzuela threw a lot of strikes and was very fun to watch on Monday.

Tanner Vislay (2023, Oakton, Va.) started on the mound for Mid Atlantic and was dominating. Vislay was sitting 74-76 mph throughout his outing and had great command. He throws straight over-the-top and works straight down the mound getting good downhill movement with his fastball. Vislay was able to throw a lot of strikes with both of his pitches keeping hitters off balance. His curveball was 67-69 with sharp breaking which was defiantly his strikeout pitch. Vislay threw 3 1/3 allowing only two hits without giving up an earned run and striking out seven.

Starting catcher for South was Jacob Lee (2024, Chesterfield, Va.) and he had himself a day at the plate. Lee went 3-for-3 for an absolute moonshot of a home run to left field. He has really good bat speed and does a very good job staying through the baseball which gives him backspin and the ability to drive the baseball. He has a big frame standing at 5-foot-8, and has a strong stance while standing in the righthanded batters box. He also showed that he blocks well behind the plate and has a strong arm. Lee will be a player you want to keep your eyes on and watch him do damage at the plate this week.
