NCAA and NJCAA National Letter of Intent Signing Dates Coming Up

The one-week signing period for the NCAA National Letter of Intent begins Wednesday, November 9.  This signing period applies to Division I and II baseball programs and many other Division I and II sports.

In addition, an NJCAA Letter of Intent can now be signed as early as November 1 for baseball (as well as all other NJCAA sports other than football).  In the past, athletes could not sign an NJCAA letter in the sport of baseball until January 15.

One of the most common questions we receive prior to Signing Day is:

What exactly am I signing when I sign the National Letter of Intent?

You’re signing a commitment to attend that university for one full academic year in exchange for an athletic scholarship.  The National Letter of Intent must be accompanied by an athletic scholarship agreement from the college that is recruiting you, and you’ll also be signing that scholarship agreement.

Other questions we are frequently asked include:

• Is a verbal commitment binding? (No)

If I sign with an NCAA Division II college and later get an offer from an NCAA Division I, can I sign with them?  (Not unless you get a release from the school you originally signed with).

•
If I sign a National Letter of Intent with a school and my coach is fired, am I automatically released from my NLI?  (No).

To be fully informed about the NCAA National Letter of Intent and how it differs from the NJCAA or NAIA Letter of Intent programs, you can purchase our downloadable PDF “What You Should Know about the NCAA National Letter of Intent.”

When you purchase this e-book in pdf format, you’ll also receive an information sheet explaining the differences between the NCAA National Letter of Intent and the NAIA and NJCAA Letter of Intent programs.
