Racine Hitters Win Midwest Regional PG East is Runner-Up

The Hitters went undefeated, beating Perfect Game East 2-1 in the Championship game. PG East won a nail biter 3-2 over Rockford, IL to reach the finals. The Hitters withstood a big comeback to beat the Wisconsin Blazers 7-6 in the other semi-final. Lombard Lightning won the consolation final defeating the Minnesota Stars.

The Hitters were led by co-MVPs John Juergens and Wes Fergus. Juergens also won the home run derby, held Saturday night. Most valuable pitcher award went to Matt Drewlow of PG East.

The Home Run contest was a great duel between John Juergens of the Hitters and TJ Saenz of the Blazers. Both hit 2 long home runs in the first round at the beautiful new Veterans Memorial Stadium. The ball park is the home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, an “A” league affiliate of the Anaheim Angels. The first round of sudden death saw both players fail to hit one out in 5 swings. In the second round both players hit one out, forcing another tie breaker. The third round, 4 swings each, saw Juergens hit two monster shots, 400 foot or more. Saenz then hit a long one in his second swing, but failed to hit another, giving Juergens the home run trophy.

Daryl Maday of the hitters was named the top prospect at the event.
