Arkansas
The Razorbacks had an outstanding day on the diamond in a 15-3 win over South Carolina. Hogs shortstop Brian Anderson went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs, while outfielder Tyler Spoon went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and five RBIs. Also note that Jacob Mahan and Jacob Morris each had two RBIs in the game.
Upset of the day
Rutgers over Louisville
The Scarlet Knights pitched at a high level in a 6-2 triumph over Louisville. RU starting pitcher Rob Smorol struck out four, walked two and allowed just two runs on six hits in seven innings, while reliever Charlie Lasky was outstanding out of the bullpen, allowing just a hit in two innings of work. Offensively, outfielder Lou Clemente went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Player of the day
Cameron Finch, RHP, Murray State: The talented junior right-handed hurler had a night to remember in a 1-0 win over SIU-Edwardsville. Finch tossed the school's first no-hitter since 1986, and the program's eighth overall, in the victory. Finch struck out five and walked four in the complete game performance. Also impressive is the fact Finch accomplished the feat with just 96 pitches, 59 for strikes.
Teams feeling good
Oregon State: Senior left-handed pitcher Matt Boyd had a performance to remember with 11 strikeouts and three walks, while allowing just one hit in a complete game shutout and 5-0 win over Arizona State. Meanwhile, outfielder Michael Conforto and Dylan Davis each had good nights at the plate with three hits for Conforto, two RBIs for Davis.
Houston: The Cougars improved to 19-4 on the season with a 7-2 win over East Carolina. UH right-handed pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon led the charge, striking out eight, walking five and allowing just two hits in eight innings of work, while shortstop Frankie Ratcliff led the offense with three hits, a double, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Southern Miss: The Golden Eagles have really struggled over the past few weeks, but rose to the occasion Friday with a 10-1 win over Rice. USM right-handed pitcher Andrew Pierce struck out four, walked one and allowed just one run on seven hits in seven innings, while reliever Nick Johnson tossed two scoreless frames. Also, catcher Chase Fowler went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Oregon: Ducks sophomore right-handed pitcher Jake Reed struck out three, walked two and allowed just one run on six hits in six innings in a 2-1 win over Arizona. While Reed led the charge, relievers Christian Jones and Jimmie Sherfy combined for three scoreless frames to end the contest.
Cal State Fullerton: Titans freshman right-handed pitcher Thomas Eshelman continues to put together outstanding performances, stifling Long Beach State in a 6-0 victory. Eshelman allowed just one hit in seven shutout frames, while reliever J.D. Davis struck out two and allowed just one hit in two shutout innings.
Mississippi State: The Bulldogs put together one of their more impressive performances of the season in an 8-4 win over Kentucky. State versatile outfielder Hunter Renfroe had an impressive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs, while leadoff hitter Adam Frazier had two hits and an RBI.
Mississippi: Rebels junior right-handed pitcher Bobby Wahl struck out nine and allowed just two runs on seven hits in eight innings in an 8-2 win over Texas A&M. While Wahl did the honors on the mound, outfielder Austin Bousfield led the charge at the plate, collecting two hits and a home run in the contest.
San Diego State: Sophomore right-handed pitcher Michael Cederoth struck out eight, walked two and allowed just three runs on three hits in 6 2/3 innings, as the Aztecs captured a solid 5-3 win over UNLV. Meanwhile, in his return to the lineup, first baseman Ryan Muno collected three hits.
California: The Golden Bears have played a much more impressive brand of baseball the past couple of weeks, and rose up in a 5-1 win over UCLA. Cal starting pitcher Ryan Mason struck out five, walked four and allowed a run on five hits in eight innings. Meanwhile, Devon Pearson went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Teams wanting a do-over
Central Arkansas: The Bears have been sizzling hot the past couple of weeks, but dropped a tough 8-1 bout to Oral Roberts. Bears starting pitcher Caleb McClanahan put together a respectable outing, but the bullpen was unable to take care of business. ORU starting pitcher Alex Gonzalez allowed just one run on five hits in eight innings.
Missouri: The Tigers have had a tough start in the SEC, dropping another contest Friday night, 4-0 to Tennessee. MU starting pitcher Rob Zastryzny allowed three runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings of work, while UT starting pitcher Zack Godley was fantastic with eight strikeouts, five walks and five hits in a complete game shutout.
Washington: The Huskies wouldn't mind a do-over for the entire season at this point. UW starting pitcher Nick Palewicz allowed four runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings, as the Huskies dropped to 4-16 overall, 0-4 in the Pac-12 in a 5-4 home loss to USC.
Fresno State: Speaking of struggling, the Bulldogs are now 4-16 on the season after dropping a disappointing 14-7 decision to Air Force. Fresno starting pitcher Tyler Linehan allowed 12 runs on 13 hits in 4 1/3 innings, while AF starting pitcher Cameron White struck out seven and allowed four earned runs in eight innings.
Texas: The Longhorns continue to struggle on the offensive side of things. UT dropped to 12-9 on the season with a 5-1 road loss to Minnesota. Golden Gophers heralded prospect, left-handed pitcher Tom Windle, struck out 12 and allowed just one run on five hits in a complete game performance. Meanwhile, UT starter Toller Boardman allowed five runs on five hits in just 1 2/3 innings.
Auburn: The Tigers suddenly are off to an 0-4 start in the SEC following a 9-4 loss to red-hot LSU. AU starting pitcher Daniel Koger walked three and allowed five runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings of work, while the offense was unable to do much against LSU right-hander Aaron Nola, who struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings.
Best individual performances
Marco Gonzales, LHP, Gonzaga: The outstanding left-handed pitcher struck out nine, walked three and allowed a run on five hits in seven innings of work in a 6-2 win over San Diego at home.
Abe Bobb, RHP, San Francisco: The Dons picked up a big win with Bobb on the bump. He struck out six, walked one and allowed just five hits in 7 2/3 shutout frames in a 2-1 win over Portland.
Dylan Banach, OF, Northern Colorado: The Bears picked up a 19-3 win over Nebraska-Omaha with the talented outfielder leading the charge. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs in the victory.
Cody Dickson, LHP, Sam Houston State: The Bearkats picked up a solid 5-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with Dickson leading the charge. He struck out 11, walked none and allowed just one hit in nine shutout frames.
Jason Carmichael, RHP, Florida: The Gators hit the road and took care of business in a 7-1 win over Vanderbilt. Carmichael, only a freshman, struck out three, walked three and allowed just one run on three hits in five innings of work.
Peter Kelich, RHP, Bryant: The Bulldogs captured a win over Mount St. Mary's with Kelich leading the charge on the mound. He struck out seven, walked one and allowed just five hits in seven shutout frames.
Mitchell Garver, C, New Mexico: The Lobos scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Nevada 9-8 at home. Garver had a huge night at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBIs.
Nate Williams, RHP, Kansas State: The talented right-handed pitcher struck out seven batters and allowed just two hits in six shutout frames in a 12-0 win over Bethune-Cookman.
Jake Long, RHP, Wisconsin-Milwaukee: The Milwaukee starting pitcher put together an excellent performance in a 4-0 win over Illinois-Chicago. He struck out five, walked three and allowed just four hits in a complete game shutout.
Joey Wagman, RHP, Cal Poly: Wagman continues to have an excellent campaign on the mound, striking out 11, walking five and allowing just two hits in seven shutout frames in a 7-0 triumph over UC Santa Barbara.
Jaron Long, RHP, Ohio State: The right-handed pitcher tossed yet another solid game in a 10-1 win over Purdue. He struck out four and allowed just a run on five hits in eight innings.
DJ Stewart, OF, Florida State: The hard-hitting freshman put together an impressive performance as the Seminoles captured a win in the second game of the day against Georgia Tech. He hit a grand slam and finished the game with six RBIs.
Daniel Gossett, RHP, Clemson: Gossett put together an impressive performance in a 7-0 win over Duke. The talented righty struck out three, walked none and allowed just five hits in a complete game shutout.
Chris Anderson, RHP, Jacksonville: The heralded prospect showed big-time velocity yet again in a dominant performance against USC Upstate. He struck out 10, walked one and allowed just eight hits in 8 1/3 shutout frames.
