CEDAR
RAPIDS, Iowa – Kevin Barr is in his 19th year working in
Major League Baseball as a strength and conditioning coordinator, his 10th with the Tampa Bay Rays. He
started his career in 1994 with the Florida Marlins, moved on to the
Kansas City Royals and Cincinnati Reds before returning to the
Marlins for one year. His reputation in the field is unmatched and
unchallenged; in 2009, he received the Nolan Ryan Award that
recognizes the MLB Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year.
It
should perhaps also be noted that Barr was a four-year letterman in
the University of Toledo baseball program and served one year (1993)
as the strength and conditioning graduate assistant for the Ohio
State University football team.
In June, 2011, Barr launched his own website called TheBBR.com (The Baseball Resource). TheBBR.com and Perfect Game are also
announcing a working agreement that should further enhance Barr’s
ability to share what he’s learned with today’s young players and
their parents.
“I’ve
had the same questions presented to me by amateur (baseball)
parents and coaches for years,” Barr said of what prompted him to
launch the site. “I started compiling categories of topics where I
knew I could help people, and my area of expertise is obviously
strength and conditioning; I know everybody in the community is looking for the same
information.
“I
wanted to create a community where everyone could come and find
everything they needed in one clean, non-advertising-cluttered place.”
Those
repeated questions led to the creation of TheBBR.com website where
Barr has put his vision to work. The site is clean and non-cluttered
and includes sections that offer information on subjects such as
“What Pro Scouts Evaluate”; “Pro Scouting Guidelines” and
“Scholarships & Recruiting”. There is also a “Baseball
Community Directory” which is dedicated to “connecting parents,
coaches and players with college baseball programs, professional scouts and
companies that can assist them.”
Visitors

Barr
is going to begin working closely with Perfect Game and its website,
www.perfectgame.org, in an
arrangement that will help "Freinds of PG" and TheBBR.com to save some money.
He
will provide Perfect Game with weekly online articles and video clips
dealing with baseball-specific strength and conditioning and will
also provide a link to www.thebbr.com
