UCLA coach John Savage has never been one to shy away from a challenge or risk.

That much is completely evident by the sensational recruiting class he put together for the 2012 baseball season. The class, which includes several elite MLB draft prospects, is small in nature with only nine signees. But the group oozes with top-tier talent.

Despite the number of draft risks with this group, Savage is cautiously optimistic.

“We’re very excited about the recruiting class we assembled, particularly in the pitching department,” Savage said. “We’ve got six excellent signees on the mound and we’ve got to find a way to hold on to four of them. The odds of all six going to college are pretty slim, but we still think we can get some impact guys on campus.”

The Bruins have an excellent crop of pitchers, spearheaded by imposing right-hander Lucas Giolito, who some believe could be the top pick in the upcoming MLB draft.
