Here
is a quick look at some of the top players that stood out during the
Atlantic Coast Top Prospect showcase in Greensboro NC. Players are
in no particular order.
Hunter
Smith 2012 (C/RHP, Whiteville, NC, East Columbus HS): Popped a
1.97 and threw 75 from behind the plate, has a line drive swing plane
and quick bat, sat in the mid 80’s topping at 86.
Collin
Lawless 2012 (C/OF, Midlothian, VA, James River HS): Solid catch
and throw skills, popping a 1.89, has nice swing plane with lift,
makes consistent contact at plate.
Colin
Gibbons-Fly 2012 (MIF, Midlothian, VA, DeMatha Catholic HS):
Clean fielding mechanics, comes through nicely, ball carries,
throwing 84 across mound, has easy swing with bat speed.
Aaron
Flanagan, 2012 (C/OF, Suffolk, VA, Isle of Wight Academy): Good
arm strength (86-OF), 1.97, and 78 from behind plate, also showed pop
from the right side hitting a long home run during BP and centering
up consistently.
Tyler
Yeatts, 2012 (OF/RHP, Richmond VA, St. Christophers School):
Strong arm from the OF throwing 88 from right field, has solid
fielding actions also, shows good bat speed at plate and makes
consistent contact, topped at 83 on mound.
Brandon
Light, 2012 (OF, Chesterfield, VA, Cosby HS): Good athletic
actions from OF, ball comes out clean and online, hit 84 from OF, has
line drive swing with extension through swing.
Dustin
Garst, 2012 (C, RHP, Salem, VA, Churchland HS): Popped a 1.91 and
75 from behind the plate using good balance and online throws to
second, makes solid contact at the plate.
Tyler
Carroll, 2012 (MIF/OF, Oakton, VA, Oakton HS): Ran a 6.95 sixty,
solid MIF actions, has quick release, makes good contact and has nice
line drive swing.
Tyler
Bullard, 2012 (OF, King, NC, West Stokes HS): Ran a 6.79 sixty,
has strength in swing, ball jumps off bat when centered up.
John
Hlavinka, 2012 (C/OF, Venetia, PA, Peters Township HS) Ran a 6.90
sixty and popped a 2.03 with good feet and accurate throws to second.
Skylar
Hunter, 2012 (C/RHP, Hanahan, SC< Hanahan HS) Athletic
presence on field, popped a 1.82 and threw 78 from behind the plate,
showed his arm strength sitting in the 85-87 range topping at 88,
line drive swing plane with good bat speed.
Ryan
McGrath, 2012 (RHP, Troy NY, Lansingburgh HS): Solid pitching
frame, high ¾ arm slot, sat in the 82-84 range topping at 84, also
flashed a nice change up.
Bryan
Drager, 2012 (RHP, Centreville, VA, Westfield HS): ¾ arm slot,
sits mid 80’s topping at 86 with hard riding life, shows a
curveball at 71-73 with good down break and has potential to be plus
pitch.
Jared
Gesell, 2012 (RHP, High Point NC, High Pont Christian Academy):
Long lean build with room to fill out, sat comfortably in the 85-87
range, has a high ceiling on mound.
