Mississippi State has been waiting a while for a week like this.

When the Bulldogs hired John Cohen away from Kentucky a couple of seasons ago, it was assumed he would head to the perennial national power and only continue the tradition that legendary coach Ron Polk created.

That assumption was wrong, and the Bulldogs finished last season with a 6-24 mark in the SEC and an overall record of 23-33. This season, the Bulldogs already are five wins away from eclipsing their 2010 win total, and also have a 4-2 conference mark. That’s a stark contrast from the six conference wins the Bulldogs totaled last season.

State made its biggest statement so far this season over the weekend with a home series sweep over Auburn and headlines our list of winners as a result.

Plenty of other teams such as UC Irvine, Washington State and Tennessee were losers.

We take an in-depth look at college baseball’s weekly winners and losers.
