Drastic changes in the rankings aren’t common after the first week of the season, but there’s at least some movement in this week’s Perfect Game Top 25 rankings.
Top-ranked Florida had a fantastic weekend against South Florida, as freshman right-handed pitcher Karsten Whitson made his college debut. The Gators stayed atop the rankings and are followed in the top five by No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 TCU, No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 5 Texas.
Arizona State and Stanford climbed into the top ten after fantastic weekends, while South Carolina moved up a spot from No. 9 to No. 8 following its series sweep over Santa Clara.
Cal State Fullerton dropped from No. 8 to No. 11 following a 1-2 weekend, while Virginia moved from No. 15 to No. 13 after a fantastic weekend that included a dominant victory over Auburn.
The conference breakdowns are as follows: Pac-10 6, ACC 6, SEC 5, Big 12 3, and MWC, Big West, Conference USA, Big East and Big South all with one representative.

1. Florida
Previous ranking: 1, Weekly record: 3-0
The Gators allowed just three runs in three games in a series sweep over South Florida. It was a business-like weekend for coach Kevin O’Sullivan’s clubs.
2. UCLA
Previous ranking: 2, Weekly record: 3-0
The talented trio of starting pitchers Gerrit Cole, Trevor Bauer and Adam Plutko allowed just a run in three games against San Francisco. Simply dominant.
3. TCU
Previous ranking: 3, Weekly record: 2-1
Though the Frogs tripped up in one game against Kansas over the weekend, they still finished the weekend with a 2-1 series victory.
4. Vanderbilt
Previous ranking: 4, Weekly record: 4-0
The Commodores’ starting rotation was solid over the weekend, especially Sonny Gray, Grayson Garvin and Taylor Hill. Perfect weekend for Vandy.
5. Texas
Previous ranking: 5, Weekly record: 3-1
Cole Green and the Longhorns tripped up once against Maryland over the weekend, but still finished the series with a 3-1 record. Freshman Erich Weiss was fantastic at the plate.
6. Oklahoma
Previous ranking: 6, Weekly record: 4-0
The Sooners played some hard-fought games against William & Mary and could’ve lost one. However, they finished the weekend with a 4-0 record.
7. Florida State
Previous ranking: 7, Weekly record: 3-0
The Seminoles had a fantastic weekend on the mound as they silenced VMI on the way to a series sweep. Sean Gilmartin getting back on track was huge.
8. South Carolina
Previous ranking: 9, Weekly record: 3-0
The Gamecocks will be incredibly difficult to beat this season if the weekend rotation of Tyler Webb, Michael Roth and Adam Westmoreland continues to throw this well.
9. Arizona State
Previous ranking: 11, Weekly record: 3-0
The Sun Devils pitched at a high level and couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in a series sweep over New Mexico.
10. Stanford
Previous ranking: 13, Weekly record: 2-1
The Cardinal got solid weekends from freshmen Austin Wilson and Brian Ragira, and took care of business on the road against Rice. Very impressive opening weekend.
11. Cal State Fullerton
Previous ranking: 8, Weekly record: 1-2
Fullerton split a pair of games against rival Long Beach State and lost a heartbreaker to a red-hot North Carolina club. Next up is a trip to No. 3 TCU.
12. Clemson
Previous ranking: 10, Weekly record: 2-1
Sure, the Tigers dropped a single game to Eastern Michigan. But on opening weekend, they still won a series 2-1. That’s all you need at this point in the season.
13. Virginia
Previous ranking: 15, Weekly record: 3-0
The Cavaliers couldn’t have had a better weekend. Danny Hultzen was fantastic at the plate and on the mound,, while Tyler Wilson had a masterful debut as a starter in a victory over Auburn.
14. Oregon
Previous ranking: 12, Weekly record: 1-2
The Ducks could’ve won all three games against Hawaii over the weekend, but only won one of three. They can finish the series at 2-2 with a win on Monday.
15. Rice
Previous ranking: 14, Weekly record: 1-2
The Owls had some iffy approaches at the plate at times over the weekend, leading to a series loss to Stanford. Still, the Owls will be fine as the season progresses.
16. Miami (Fla.)
Previous ranking: 17, Weekly record: 2-1
The Hurricanes dropped a single game to Rutgers but still earned a series win. Freshman pitcher Bryan Radziewski was a bright spot over the weekend.
17. Connecticut
Previous ranking: 16, Weekly record: 1-2
It wasn’t exactly a good weekend for the Huskies, who dropped contests to Purdue and Minnesota. However, they will rebound and be fine this spring.
18. Arizona
Previous ranking: 18, Weekly record: 3-0
The Wildcats did what was expected of them and took care of business of North Dakota State over the weekend.
19. Coastal Carolina
Previous ranking: 19, Weekly record: 3-1
The Chanticleers lost a heartbreaking extra-inning affair to Indiana, but still finished the weekend at 3-1 with wins over Boston College, Tennessee Tech and Virginia Tech.
20. Texas A&M
Previous ranking: 20, Weekly record: 3-0
The Aggies will be incredibly difficult to beat this season if they consistently get great starts from Michael Wacha, John Stilson and Ross Hales. Hales was the brightest spot.
21. California
Previous ranking: 21, Weekly record: 2-0
The Golden Bears opened up their final season as a baseball program with a pair of expected wins over Utah.
22. North Carolina
Previous ranking: 22, Weekly record: 4-0
The Tar Heels aren’t moving much because many ahead of them succeeded, but they had a great weekend that included wins over Cal State Fullerton, Missouri, USC and Cal Poly.
23. LSU
Previous ranking: 25, Weekly record: 3-0
The Tigers put their young guns on the mound on display throughout the weekend, as Kevin Gausman, Ryan Edes and Kurt McCune led the way. Very impressive first weekend by the LSU youngsters.
24. Auburn
Previous ranking: 23, Weekly record: 2-1
The Tigers finished the weekend with a pair of victories over Arkansas State and UAB, but stumbled on the mound in a matchup with fellow ranked team Virginia.
25. Georgia Tech
Previous ranking: 24, Weekly record: 2-1
The Yellow Jackets were silenced in their series finale against Kent State, but still took two of three from a solid northern team. Solid weekend for the Jackets.
