Top '09 Prospect List

1. Nick Berhel rhp, 6’1” 175, R/R, De La Salle HS, Benicia, Calif. – Clearly the top pitcher at the showcase, Berhel has an 88-91 mph fastball and 76-78 mph slider that is continually improving; very loose and quick arm, free and easy arm action.

2. Andrew Susac, c, 6’1” 185, R/R, Jesuit HS, Roseville, Calif. – Stands out as both a talented defensive player and as a middle of the order caliber hitter; has plus catch/throw skills with a strong arm and quick feet; bat speed and power to all fields.

3. Devon Zenn, of/lhp, 5’11” 190, L/L, Benicia (Calif.) HS – Has plus bat speed and a swing that creates backspin; when he learns to drive his hips to the ball on the outer half he will move to another level; also has an 84 mph fastball and a plus curveball.

4. Nathan Underwood, rhp, 6’3” 190, R/R,Bellarmine College Prep, San Jose, Calif. – Lean and strong bodied with a quick arm; has the ability to beat hitters with his lively fastball that was up to 88 mph; showed two very promising secondary pitches.

5. Chris Mendoza, rhp, 5’11” 171, R/R, Branham HS, San Jose, Calif. – Average bodied righty with a quick, easy arm and high quality stuff; 86-88 mph fastball (T 89) has late life down in the zone; has feel of 74-76 mph curveball with good spin and bite.

6. Robbie Erlin, lhp, 5’11” 165, R/L, Scotts Valley HS, Santa Cruz, Calif. – Polished left handed pitcher commands both sides of the plate with his 84-87 (T 88) fastball; his best pitch is a downer curveball with plus spin and hard downward action.

7. Drew Bradshaw, lhp, 6’1” 210, R/L, Monte Vista HS, Danville, Calif. – Physical bodied pitcher with a strong, easy arm and quality stuff; his 84-86 (T 87) fastball has excellent late movement and his 74 mph split-finger fastball dives and cuts late.

8. Matthew Paradise, 3b, 6’0” 180, R/R, J Serra HS, San Clemente, Calif. – Has prototypical 3rd baseman tool set; aggressive hitter with good bat speed and a knack for making hard contact; strong arm and soft hands that are well-suited for the hot corner.

9. Joe Sever, ss, 5’11” 180, R/R, Bellarmine College Prep, San Jose, Calif. – Strong and athletic infielder with the arm for shortstop and a nose for the ball; plus bat speed and some present day power with an aggressive hitting approach.

10. Kevin McEntee, mif, 6’1” 175, R/R, Serra HS, San Mateo, Calif. – Tools do not stand out but he plays easy, with feel and as he gets stronger, the tools will emerge; excellent young hitter with a pretty swing; moves fluidly in the middle of the diamond.

11. Anthony Renda, inf, 5’9” 165, R/R, Serra HS, Hillsborough, Calif. – Exciting and somewhat explosive player who plays much bigger than his size; plus bat speed and an aggressive nature at the plate and in the field; built for success at the D1 level.

12. Haden Hinkle, rhp/1b, 6’3” 200, R/R, Madera (Calif. ) HS – Passes the eye test with the type of body all scouts are looking for; has a powerful yet controlled swing that projects to produce plenty of power; soft hands, good feet, and a strong arm; did not pitch in this event due to a shutdown period but we really like him on the mound too.

13. Brock Simon, rhp, 6’2” 170, R/R, Jesuit HS, El Dorado Hills, Calif. – More of a projection prospect at this point; has an easy, quick arm with a fastball that was steady at 84 mph, with movement on both sides of the plate; good changeup too.

14. Andrew Wild, lhp, 5’11” 182, S/L, Mt. Whitney HS, Visalia, Calif. – Somewhat stocky bodied lefty can really pitch; 82-84 mph fastball with late life and good command and a 75 mph curveball with plus spin and late action; pitches with confidence too.

15. Justin D’Amico, 1b, 5’11” 215, R/R, Freedom HS, Oakley, Calif. – Physical bodied hitter hammered the ball to all fields and showed a professional hitting approach for such a young player; handled many chances at 3rd and 1st base, showing soft hands.

Top '10 Prospect List

1. Ellis Stephney, 3b/rhp, 6’0” 203, S/R, Albany HS, Pinole, Calif. –

Strong athletic pitcher and infielder who shows power at the plate and has solid infield hands. He is already up to 85 on the mound with more to come.

2. Ryan Bayman, rhp, 6’3” 205, R/R, Clovis West HS, Fresno, Calif.-

Already throws in the low 80’s and is a very projectable right handed pitcher who will throw harder.

3. DonAndre Clark, of, 5’8” 150, S/R, Serra HS, Hayward, Calif.-

Switch-hitting outfielder who shows bat speed from both sides of the plate. He is also athletic in the outfield and covers a lot of ground.

4. Devin Elliott, SS, 6’1” 185, R/R, Monterey HS, Monterey, Calif.-

Athletic infielder who can really hit. He has a compact swing with bat speed and gets good extension.

5. Kristopher Ashby, LHP, 5’9” 160, S/L, Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove , Calif.- Left-handed pitcher who really knows how to pitch. Mixes a low 80’s fastball with an excellent curveball. Has room to grow and add velocity.
