Regional Previews: Florida

Georgia’s senior class featured three All-Americans in middle infielder’s Josh Gibbs and Dax Kilby and outfielder Ty Peeples but only has five players ranked in the Top 100 in the PG class rankings and is especially light in top pitching prospects. In fact, the 13 member All-Region team features seven underclassmen and only six seniors, with more underclassmen earning mention for best tools/skills. The most precocious talent in the Georgia high school ranks might actually be a freshman, Dexter McCleon Jr (Buford HS), the top ranked player nationally in the 2028 class.

Perhaps reflecting that shortage of established senior talent, only three Georgia high school teams are ranked in the pre-season Top 50; Etowah at seventh, Blessed Trinity Catholic at 29th and Marist at 49th. Seven Georgia schools gained top 50 recognition in the end of season 2024 rankings, including Etowah at 14th overall.

C – Dominic Stephenson (Sr., Harrison HS, Ga.)

Stephenson is a big and strong 6-1/195 catcher who is athletic enough to play all over the field but has the tools and skills to stay behind the plate in the long term. He made huge strides with his bat in 2024, as the right-handed hitter hit .376-7-41 with 23 walks in 51 PG games after only hitting .204-0-7 in 2023. Stephenson is the 11th ranked catcher nationally in the 2025 class and is signed with Georgia Tech.

1B – Jack Richerson (Jr., Marist HS, Ga.)

Richerson has played every position on the field except catcher and at 6-4/212 fits best on this team at first base, even with his 6.76 speed and 97 mph outfield throwing arm. He has hit .413-1-16 and .563-1-31 the past two years in PG play and is just beginning to grow into his power potential. Richerson is also a 4A All-State tight end and defensive end on the football field who has received D1 offers for that sport.

MIF – Keon Johnson (Jr., First Presbyterian HS, Ga.)

Johnson has a rare combination of strength and physicality with speed and athleticism. Although he is listed at 6-2/196 and is young for the 2026 class, Johnson moves like a smaller athlete on defense and can make all the plays. His raw power and bat speed at the plate give him a chance to be a five-tool player. The Vanderbilt commit is the sixth ranked player in the 2026 class nationally and the top ranked junior in Georgia.

MIF – Josh Gibbs (Sr., Forsyth Central HS, Ga.)

Gibbs is the highest ranked senior in Georgia, checking in at 17th overall in the national PG class rankings. A participant in the 2024 PG All-American Classic, Gibbs is a dynamic offensive player who hit .434-3-38 in 50 PG games in 2024 and .417-2-21 during the spring at Forsyth Central High School. He is signed with Georgia.

3B – Dax Kilby (Sr., Newnan HS, Ga.)

Kilby is a PG All-American shortstop but at 6-2/190 with plenty of growing left to do it’s easy to see him at third base or even second base in the future. His best tool is his left-handed bat, which combines outstanding barrel skills with growing bat speed and power, and he has also run a 6.47 sixty. Kilby hit .418-2-21 in 25 PG games in 2024 with an 11:6 walk to strikeout ratio and was named the Most Valuable player at the PG All-American Classic. He’s signed with Clemson.

OF – Ty Peeples (Sr., Franklin County HS, Ga.)

Peeples has that sweet left-handed swing that’s unmistakable when one sees it and a 6-2/185 build that is still very projectable. He hit .459-9-35 last spring at Franklin County High School and .328-4-14 in 24 games in PG play in 2024 and was named a PG All-American. Peeples, who is also a 6.72 runner, is signed with Georgia.

OF – Caden Dawson (So., Blessed Trinity Catholic HS, Ga.)

Dawson is a three-time PG Select Festival athlete who is the top ranked outfielder nationally in the 2027 class and third ranked player overall in the class. He hit .381-6-35 as a freshman at Blessed Trinity High School and continued to be one of the most dominant players on the summer circuit, hitting .370-7-55 with 47 steals while frequently playing up in age group. He’s also a standout linebacker on the football field.

OF – Malachi Washington (Jr., Parkview HS, Ga.)

Washington is the latest in the endless string of Parkview High School standouts and has a very high ceiling as an offensive talent in particular, with 6.63 speed in the sixty and big power potential as a 6-1/195 right-handed hitter. He hit .316-0-23 as a rare sophomore starter at Parkview and .398-6-27 with 14 steals in 42 games in PG play in 2024. Washington, who is ranked 56th in the PG 2026 class rankings nationally, is committed to LSU.

LHP R.J. Cope (Jr., Georgia Premier Academy, Ga.)

The 6-8/245 Cope may end up having appeared in more Perfect Game events than any other player by the time he graduates, thus giving scouts the opportunity to see him advance from a 6-3/195 gangly 13-year old throwing 70 mph to an oversized athlete throwing 90-93 with a big breaking slider and more to come. Cope is also a talented left-handed hitter and hit .289-6-38 in PG play in 2024. He’s committed to Vanderbilt.

LHP Connor Langdon (Jr., Perry HS, Ga.)

Langdon is a broad shouldered 6-2/195 southpaw who is ranked 28th nationally in the 2026 class. He was 89-93 mph at PG events in 2024 to go with a sweeping low 80’s slider and has been up to 95 mph at non-PG events. The Georgia commit struck out 47 hitters in only 25 innings between Perry High School in the spring and PG play in the summer.

RHP Matthew Sharman (Jr., Etowah HS, Ga.)

Sharman has a mature 6-3/215 frame for a sophomore to go with a very mature approach and skill set on the mound. He’s a strike thrower who has been up to 94 mph while showing a full four-pitch mix at PG tournaments. Sharman went 8-0, 0.34 as a sophomore at Etowah High School with 85 strikeouts in 62 innings. He is committed to Georgia.

RHP Dean Livingston (Sr., Hebron Christian Academy, Ga.)

Livingston is a very projectable 6-4/195 right-hander with a scholarship to Georgia. He works consistently in the 91-94 mph range with his fastball and showed the ability to go deep into starts last summer while filling up the strike zone with a full four-pitch mix.

RHP Reid Worley (Sr., Cherokee HS, Ga.)

Worley was one of the most improved pitchers in the country last summer, with a fastball that topped out at 93 mph to go with one of the best sliders in the high school ranks. The Kennesaw State signee struck out 90 hitters in 57 innings with Cherokee High School last spring while going 5-1, 1.47.

UT – Brock Rein (Jr., Starrs Mill HS, Ga.)

Rein is the 91st ranked player nationally in the 2026 class and holds a scholarship commitment from Georgia largely based on his middle infield ability and strong right-handed bat on a 6-3/190 frame. But he’s also an arm talent who has been up to 90 mph on the mound and 92 from the outfield while winning numerous WWBA All-Tournament mentions as a pitcher.

Best Hitter for Average: Josh Gibbs (Sr., Forsyth Central HS, Ga.)

Gibbs doesn’t have the standard high contact/high average approach but the right-handed hitter has outstanding barrel to ball skills and easy plus bat speed. His 6.65 speed and high energy actions on the field contribute to his ability to hit over .400 at all levels and excel against better pitching.

Best Hitter for Power: Ty Peeples (Sr., Franklin County HS, Ga.)

This category is pretty much set, allowing for surprises and development, for the next three years with Peeples this year, Martin Shelar (Marist HS) for his senior year in 2026 and slugger Caden Dawson and his already powerful bat in 2027. Dawson might actually be the favorite for next year as well, realistically.

Best Runner: Maddox Monsour (Sr., Carrollton HS, Ga.)

Monsour is a 6.44 runner in the sixty with an explosive first step on the bases that shows up in his triples and stolen bases. Over the last three years and 135 games in PG play, Mousour is 73-84 in stolen bases and has added 19 triples. The Texas signee has hit .371-10-44 with 42 steals over his last two seasons at Franklin County High School.

Best Defensive Catcher: Branson Crawford (Jr., North Hall HS, Ga.)

Crawford has a compact 5-9/170 build and exceptional quickness for a catcher as a twitchy 6.61 runner. He also has big arm strength, having thrown 84 mph from behind the plate in drills, 93 mph from the outfield and 89 mph from the mound.

Best Defensive Infielder: Keon Johnson (Jr., First Presbyterian HS, Ga.)

Despite his strong and physical 6-2/195 build, Johnson has pure shortstop tools and athleticism on defense. He has very quick and quiet feet moving to the ball, soft hands and outstanding arm strength.

Best Defensive Outfielder: Wessley Roberson (Jr., Glynn Academy, Ga.)

Roberson’s run and throw tools are already elite and he’s still 16 years old with plenty of time and room to add strength to his 6-1/175 build. He’s a 6.44 runner with a 97 mph outfield arm with impressive fundamentals as a centerfielder.

Best Defensive Arm: Wessley Roberson (Jr., Glynn Academy, Ga.)

Roberson impresses not only with his raw arm strength but with his ability to make on-line and accurate throws. He stood out at the 2024 PG Junior National Showcase defensively and is an LSU commit.

Best Fastball: Dean Livingston (Sr., Hebron Christian Academy, Ga.)

Livingston was 93 mph or better at all his Perfect Game outings last summer, including at the 17U Ultimate Baseball Championship where he won Most Valuable Pitcher. It’s easy to see him improving on his peak end 95 mph velocity as he gets stronger.

Best Off-Speed Stuff: Reid Worley (Sr., Cherokee HS, Ga.)

Worley’s slider is thrown hard in the low 80’s and has outstanding spin up to 3,200 rpm along with sharp bite and big depth and is one of the top swing/miss pitches in the country. His low 80’s change up is a potential plus pitch as well, with big fading life.

Best Pitchability: Matthew Sharman (Jr., Etowah HS, Ga.)

Sharman has thrown 64% strikes over 52 innings in PG play over the past two years, with 11 walks and 80 strikeouts, to go with an ERA just over 1.00. He’s consistently been successful pitching above his age, including impressive four inning starts at both the 2023 and 2024 WWBA World Championships.

Best Multi-Sport Athlete: John Stuetzer (Sr., Pope HS, Ga.)

Stuetzer is the 131st ranked player in the 2025 class as a speedy shortstop/centerfielder who has a 6.36 sixty to his credit from the 2024 PG National Showcase and is signed to Florida State. He’s also a standout on the football field with his speed and physical 5-11/185 build. Stuetzer has 119 catches over the past three years for Pope High School for 2,343 yards and 27 touchdowns and also rushed for 464 yards in 2024 and an additional 10 touchdowns. Sophomore catcher Cole Crawford (So., Cartersville HS, Ga.) is a three-time PG Select Festival selection but is looking increasingly like a primary football talent as a four-star linebacker prospect with a full slate of SEC offers already.
