Frame/Setup

Taylor features a lean build at 6-foot-1, 215-pounds. There is obvious strength to the frame present with room to add even more. At the plate, the left-handed hitting Taylor utilizes a wider base setup with a crouched lower half as shown. The hands start in a strong position close to the back ear. A moderate leg kick timing mechanism is used. The hands have a slight hitch as they drop down to the letters. At foot strike, a strong, balanced position is shown with quality separation to the hands. Twitchy hands can fire the barrel with intent and accuracy. Quick bat speed is shown on a lofted path through the zone. There is strength at contact with extension out front, allowing balls to be lifted with authority. Overall, fluidity and balance throughout the swing with a mix of power and intent is shown.

Tools

The slugging outfielder possesses one of the higher offensive ceilings in this year’s class. The left-handed hitting outfielder features immense bat speed and loud impact off the barrel. The power stands out and plays to all fields. Taylor hit a Big Ten leading 20 home runs last year and has slugged over .650 both years at Indiana. It is a potential plus tool when it is all said and done, giving Taylor middle of the order potential. Taylor also shows a potential above-average hit tool to the profile, posting a near .360 average last year. Consistent feel for the barrel is shown and the approach continues to improve. Taylor cut down the strikeouts last spring significantly, posting a near 1:1 K:BB ratio. Taylor has proven he can get to tough pitches and has also hit breaking balls well. When he is not chasing out of the zone, Taylor is an imposing opponent in the box. There is speed to the profile as well, adding another element of explosiveness to the profile. Taylor has the offensive tools to go early one day one next summer.

“The Buzz”

Taylor has just continued to get better each of the last two seasons. He burst onto the college scene with a loud freshman campaign and he followed it with an even better sophomore season. Tangible improvements were made from one spring to the next, making an already impressive profile even more enticing. There isn't as much value on the defensive side, as Taylor’s fringy arm and glove profile best in left field, but the bat may be too good for some organizations to pass up. If Taylor posts another strong spring, the tools will make him an early day one pick.

Summation

Taylor currently sits at No. 14 overall on the PG Draft Board and could climb even higher as we approach the draft. The outfielder has posted strong numbers every year in Bloomington and he has continued to get better and the production has proved it. The upside is immense on the offensive side. There is a strong hit tool and loud all-fields power that shows up often. The bat has some middle of the order traits with run-producing ability. Plenty of eyes will be on Taylor this spring, as many organizations are sure to be interested.
