Payton Manca, LHP, Class of 2023
College Commitment: Florida State

Manca makes his commitment to the ‘Noles after a stellar 2021 campaign, where he amassed roughly two strikeouts per inning and walking just 12 in his 29 1/3 innings. The hulking 6-foot-5 lefty runs his fastball into the upper-80s, touching 90 mph at the WWBA Underclass World Championships from a loose three-quarters arm slot that he repeats well. The Winchendon, Mass. native competes within the strike zone, attacking hitters with good command of all four quadrants and allows for his natural life to generate plenty of swings and misses. He mixes in a slurve-shaped breaking ball that he can land for strikes and manipulate the shape for swings and misses, while mimicking his release effectively. The 2023 grad completes his arsenal with a developing changeup that flashes heavy dive when thrown with conviction. Although rather physically developed already, Manca’s frame provides for more room to add strength and should see another velocity bump as he continues to mature. Look for him to make an immediate impact upon stepping on campus, as FSU and pitching coach Jim Belanger have a proven track record of developing arms.
