Marc Davis, RHP, Florida SouthWestern ('18 HS Grad)
One of the premier JUCO players who returned to the JC level for the 2021 season, Davis likely would have been drafted relatively high and signed had the draft been more than 5 rounds this past June. Now one of the better JUCO prospects in the country, Davis looked good in a 2 inning stint for FSW in their exhibition match during the WWBA World Championship.
Davis is a long, leanly-built right-hander with a fair bit of physical projection remaining, along with plus arm speed and a high-end spin profile. The fastball hit 94 mph a few times, mostly sitting in the 91-93 mph range, showing the ability to miss bats with the pitch with relative ease, getting near double-digit whiffs on the pitch in this outing. His ability to impart spin on the baseball is high-end, with both his curveball and slider flashing plus in this outing. The curveball is thrown in the 77-80 mph range with hammer bite and plus-plus raw spin, and the slider is likewise a dynamic pitch, thrown firmer in the 82-84 mph range with hard, late-biting tilt; also featuring plus-plus raw spin. He mixes in a changeup and is around the zone with the entire arsenal, though the overall command was fringe-average in this look. Regardless, Davis’s projection, athleticism, and overall arsenal all portend to a legitimate draft prospect, and he could wind up in top 5 round consideration next July.
Antonio Knowles, RHP, Florida SouthWestern ('18 HS Grad)
Another 3rd year JUCO player, Knowles was drafted out of high school by the Rays but opted not to sign, and should be a big piece to the FSW puzzle this spring. A solidly-built right-hander, Knowles is something of a short-strider downhill, getting over his front side well and showing the ability to leverage the ball down in the strike zone. He worked 87-89 mph with the fastball, showing some life to the arm side on the pitch, and mixed in a curveball that he consistently landed in zone as well as a changeup with some fading life, with the curveball in the 79-82 mph range and the changeup clocking in at 80-81 mph.
