Battle of the Midwest Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2

Uncommitted southpaw Noah Rooney (2021, Perham, Minn.) took the mound for the MN Starters 17U National team during Thursday morning’s first time slot, mixing well and attacking hitters from the start on his way to a really impressive line. Rooney allowed just one hit over four innings of work, striking out seven and holding the opponents to just the one baserunner.

Rooney sat 84-87 mph with the fastball for a majority of the outing, running it up to 88 mph on a strikeout pitch and displaying advanced command of the corners. The fastball is heavy, flashing some arm-side run with steep downhill plane from the over the top slot. Rooney also mixed well during his outing, showing good feel for a big curveball at 72-73 mph. The bender has 1-7 shape and sharp depth through the zone, generating some swings below the zone and flashing potential to be a swing-and-miss pitch in the future. The Perham native is making a steady climb in the Midwest and should find his college home sooner rather than later.
