Widely viewed as one of the top prep defenders in the class, Ondina has some limitations to his profile in terms of long-term projection, but certainly has enough present ability to warrant this ranking. He’s objectively undersized, but his quick-twitch and defensive abilities play much larger than his stature. A middle infielder, Ondina has excellent range and athleticism up the middle with arguably the best infield hands in the class, and has an above-average arm that should allow him to play shortstop long term. Offensively, the drawback is that there’s not much in the way of power and it’s unlikely there ever will be, but he’s got a good approach and has bat-to-ball skills. He lacks dynamic upside due to the offensive limitations, but offers big league upside on the strength of the glove.
