One weekend down, 13 to go in the regular season, at least for most teams. The first PG College Top 25 ranking update proved to be more difficult than expected simply because the top two teams both went 1-2. However, it was hard to penalize them by playing more challenging opponents while others in the Top 25 did not. Not to mention, it's the first weekend of the year and it's hard to know how much stock to put into 3-4 games.

No. 1 Louisville did lose, to Ole Miss on the Rebels' home turf in Oxford, a series that provided plenty of drama in what was long-identified as the top series to kick off the 2020 campaign. No. 2 Vanderbilt lost a pair of heartbreakers on Friday and Sunday, first to a ranked Michigan club and next to a pesky Cal Poly squad that clearly is poised to make some noise in the Big West.

The other weekend series between ranked opponents saw Oklahoma beat Virginia in Pensacola, Fla. While OU, like Ole Miss, moves up in the Top 25 for their hard-fought series win, UVA, like Louisville and Vandy, get a week one mulligan of sorts and stays put.

Michigan had a particularly impressive weekend, coming from behind to beat Vanderbilt on Friday before taking down both Cal Poly and Arizona State on Saturday. UConn got the best of the Wolverines on Sunday, but Michigan still had a 3-1 weekend against some tough opponents.

Arizona State – who also lost to Villanova – Stanford and Oklahoma State all drop in the rankings. Stanford played a tough Cal State Fullerton team at home while Oklahoma State dropped two of three to Grand Canyon in Phoenix.
