Kyle Hurt, rhp, USC (Jr.)
The junior righty kicked things off for the Trojans, who had all of their pitchers working just fastballs and changeups. Hurt always seems to flash the stuff, which made him a PG All American in high school in 2016, and this look was no different. With an easy, athletic delivery which he repeats well, Hurt featured a fastball that sat at 92-93 mph and touched plenty of 94s and 95s. The fastball has excellent arm-side run with sink, especially down in the zone and on the arm-side part of the plate. He mixed in the change often at 85-87, and while firm, the pitch shows excellent fade and tumble and he shows good feel for the pitch. In the past he’s shown both a curveball and a slider, working more with the slider last year which is also a weapon. The command of the fastball will dictate what Hurt is; when he’s at the glove with the fastball he looks like a prototype Friday Pac-12 starter and a day one guy for the draft, he just needs to hit the glove with the fastball more consistently.
