2019 Area Code Games Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2

Day three saw the Brewers bats heat up and third baseman Drew Bowser (2020, Encino, Calif.) found a ton of barrels on his day. The No. 40 overall 2020 prospect and PG All-American smoked a double past the third baseman down the left field line in his first at-bat. He then got into a ball to left-center that got caught off the wall in his second at-bat. Bowser has a large projectable frame with present pop at the plate. He uses an even crouched stance with a small hanging leg kick trigger. Despite Bowser’s already strong build, there’s still plenty of raw power to be unlocked in his swing as he continues to develop his game. From load to extension, he stays tall throughout and generates solid backspin on pitches up in the zone. On pitches down he has a tendency to get his hands out and around the baseball but that’s an adjustment he should be able to work on at the next level. His glove at third base is good, showing solid athleticism and footwork especially for his size. His arm is not elite yet across the diamond, but still has plenty of strength to make all the necessary throws. Bowser does not possess the intangible rhythm with the baseball yet that most of the top tier gloves in his class do, but as his game matures expect him to improve on his already solid defense at the hot corner. He’s committed to Stanford, and if all goes right for the Cardinal next fall, they could have their left side of the infield locked up with Bowser and Tommy Troy.
