2019 WWBA 14U National Championship

Hoover, Ala. will be the site of the future of baseball this week, as the 13th annual WWBA 14U National Championship brings in 116 teams, including the most talented players in the class, to compete for a title.

As noted in a Perfect Game Top 10 feature this week, the tournament has been up for grabs in recent years, as nine different programs have won the past nine championships. Before that, the East Cobb Astros won four of five titles from 2007 through 2011. Canes National 14U, which won the tournament a year ago, is back again with a fresh crop of players.

Canes National isn’t the only past champ to make its way to Hoover this weekend, however. The East Coast Sox, 2015 winners, will be in attendance. Joining them will be the Louisiana Tigers (2013 winners) and Dulin’s Dodgers (2009 winners).

A number of top prospects will be playing, and looking at the list starts to give you an idea of which teams may compete for a championship this week. 5 Star National 14U has a pair of top-30 middle infield prospects in Nazier Mule (Paterson, N.J.) and Nicolas Perez (Isabela, P.R.), and the No. 202 prospect in the 2022 class in outfielder Carlos Elian Martinez (Coamo, P.R.). A handful of High Follows fill out their roster, including 2022 righthanded pitcher Harry Gomez (Arecibo, P.R.), 2023 lefthanded pitcher Andrew Elkhill (Fernandina Beach, Fla.), and 2023 catcher Brady Neal (Tallahassee, Fla.).

The top prospect at the tournament will be 2022 No. 3 overall Termarr Johnson. The No. 1 middle infielder in the class out of Atlanta was a 2019 PG Preseason Underclassmen All American and will suit up for MGBA 14U.

2019 WWBA 17U National Championship

What do David Price, Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Chris Sale, and Javier Baez all have in common? Well, besides having bank accounts with a lot of commas in them, they all played in the WWBA 17U National Championship, which adds its 17th annual installment this week in the Greater Atlanta Area.

A majority of the recent No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks in the MLB Draft have all travelled to this tournament to compete, as seen in this Perfect Game Top 10 list. Many other WWBA 17U National Championship alums who didn’t make that Top-10 list call themselves All Stars and Gold Glove winners. All in all, 4,590 MLB draft picks and 473 MLB players have participated in the event. So, the talent at this tournament is immense.

A large number of the top 100 players in the 2020 class will be in uniform in Atlanta this weekend, including some of the top 10 players in the class. Blaze Jordan, a third baseman and Mississippi State commit, headlines the group as the No. 2 overall prospect. No. 7 Jared Kelley, a righthanded pitching prospect committed to Texas, will be there as well.

The 2021 class will also be well-represented in Atlanta this weekend, as 13 of the top 30 prospects in the class will be in attendance. The headliner will be No. 1 overall player Brady House, a shortstop from Winder, Ga. Committed to play at Tennessee. Righthanded pitcher Christian Little, the No. 2 prospect in the class and a Vanderbilt commit, will also play. Both House and Little will play for Team Elite 17U Scout Team, and will share a dugout with No. 22 overall 2021 prospect Grant Taylor, another righthanded pitcher and LSU commit.

2019 PG 12U World Series

Marietta, Ga. And the East Cobb Complex will play host to the 2019 PG 12U World Series this weekend, which promises to be one of the most fun events of the summer.

30 teams will compete for a title, but only after participating in a number of skills competitions. Each team will pick a representative for a home run derby, two players for a “Fastest Man” competition, two players for a throwing accuracy competition, and one for a pop-time throw-off.
