FORT MYERS, Fla. – A game that only saw a single scored run until the bottom of the sixth was just enough to advance SWFL 2020 Nation in the 2019 PG Super25 17u Florida Super Qualifier on Father’s Day afternoon. Backed by strong pitching and a balanced offensive attack, SWFL Nation shut out the Banditos Florida Upperclass 1-0 to advance to Monday’s semifinals.

But what led the team to a quarterfinal victory was an earlier shutout Sunday morning against the Florida Legends Academy of Orlando by a score of 8-0.

Joshua Brooks (2020, Auburndale, Fla.), who had led the way going 1-for-2 in the quarterfinals, launched a low pitch to center field in the sixth scoring Andrew Marinello (2020, Cape Coral, Fla.) from third. Brooks provided SWFL Nation the only run needed to take down Banditos Florida Upperclass in the quarterfinals.

Righthander Micheal Ross (2020, Lakeland, Fla.), making his first weekend start, threw 5 1/3 shutout innings only allowing only one hit while striking out five for SWFL. His fastball topped out at 86 mph.

This talented team brings along four of the five top prospects in this event, one in which has committed to play college ball.

Cape Coral native McFaddin (Mac) Moise (2020, Cape Coral, Fla.), also of SWFL Nation, ranks in the top 500 nationally in the high school class of 2020. The primary catcher is committed to playing his college baseball at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Uncommitted Drew Brutcher (2020, Lakeland, Fla.), who came in the game as the relief, ranks 394th at the national level for the high school class of 2020. The righthander topped out at 89 mph, allowing one hit and striking out one in his 1 1/3 innings.

Primary third baseman Tommy Ricketts (2020, Babson Park, Fla.) ranks in the top 500 nationally, along with teammate Jaylen Youngs (2020, Cape Coral, Fla.), who ranks in the top 1000 nationally for the class of 2020.

The 2019 PG Super25 17u Florida Super Qualifier is home to The SWFL (Southwest Florida) organization out of Fort Myers and marks 30 Perfect Game championships over the years. On Monday, SWFL 2020 Nation and SWFL Canes will square off in the semifinals. First pitch is set for 8 a.m. ET at Terry Park Sports Complex.
