JUCO Top 25: April 30 | Top 300 JUCO Prospects

The old saying goes "the more things change, the more they stay the same." The same is true for this time of year when covering JUCO baseball as there are stretches of these rankings that didn't change at all from a week ago, yet we have four newcomers to the list as well as a lot more clarity in several regional races.

Starting at the top, Wabash Valley shows no signs of slowing down, taking three games from John A. Logan over the course of Sunday and Monday, though these rankings only take into account games played through Sunday. They started rolling in the fall, essentially, and show zero signs of slowing down as they prepare for the postseason. Walters State is in the midst of their regional tournament at this point in time and they hold steady at No. 2. Northwest Florida State is preparing for the annual pressure cooker that is the regional tournament in Florida, scheduled for this upcoming weekend. McLennan holds steady at No. 4, as does LSU-Eunice at No. 5. San Joaquin Delta remains at No. 6 following an opening round win in the CCCBA NorCal Regional. Wallace-Dothan and Iowa Western maintain at Nos. 7 and 8, respectively, while Southern Nevada clinched the Scenic West Conference title with a series win over Salt Lake. Johnson County and Central Florida also stayed the same this week at Nos. 10 and 11.

After an up-and-down, consistently inconsistent season, Central Arizona is back in the Top 25 at No. 24 after they not only snuck into the postseason, but then swept Cochise in the Region 1 playoffs. They'll square off with Yavapai, who beat South Mountain on the other side of the bracket, for the Region 1 championship. Gordon State makes their rankings debut this week at No. 19, as they've dominated the state of Georgia to the tune of a 26-4 conference record and stand at 47-7 overall. Florida SouthWestern State rejoins the rankings this week at No. 21 and they've hit their stride after some midseason hiccups that saw them fall out of the rankings for a stretch. Likewise, after a season-long climb back towards the top, Santa Rosa checks in at No. 25 overall as they've also held serve in NorCal and are onto the second round of the regional tournament there.

We will be taking a break from the rankings next week for the sake of letting a good bit of dust settle on regional tournaments, but these will return on May 21 in what will be the penultimate Top 25 ahead of the various JUCO championships across the country. We'll finish up with our final rankings, as well as the unveiling of our postseason awards, following the conclusion of the JUCO World Series in early June.

Rankings are based on games through Sunday, May 5.
