National High School Top 50: April 16

Orange Lutheran (Calif.) dropped their first game since the Boras Classic South in a series in which they still took two of three from rival Servite (Calif.), and as such IMG Academy reclaims their spot at No. 1 in the updated National High School Top 50 team rankings. IMG, which has been either the No. 1 or No. 2 team all season long, has one of the most complete rosters in the country and their talent is led by star righthander Brennan Malone. The IMG ace boasts one of the best packages of tools on the mound in the country and he's ascended himself to a likely first round pick in June.

Argyle (Texas), Calvary Christian Academy (Fla.), and Delbarton (N.J.) round out the rest of the top five as all three schools have lost just one game this season. Argyle was last year's national champion and looks to be just as talented this year while Calvary Christian Academy has been one of the most consistent teams. Delbarton dropped one game at the NHSI to open their season and looks to be hitting their stride, led by two potential first round picks in righthanded pitcher Jack Leiter and shortstop Anthony Volpe, both of whom were PG All-Americans last summer. Blanchard (Okla.) joins the Top 10 at No. 10 as they have won 30 straight games to start their season.

New schools to the Top 50 include No. 33 De La Salle (Calif.), No. 42 Mesquite (Ariz.), No. 43 East Lake (Fla.), No. 46 Buchanan (Calif.) and No. 49 Beechwood (Ky.). De La Salle went 4-0 last week in a tournament at Bishop Gorman where they beat the No. 17 team, St. Laurence (Ill.), as well as other national powers in Marian Catholic (Ill.), Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) and Bishop Gorman (Nev.). Mesquite has proven itself as one of the premier Southwest schools this season, while Buchanan, along with De La Salle, appear to be the class of NorCal. East Lake and Beechwood are both undefeated to start their seasons.

Seasons are heading towards their end in some states, most of the Southeastern states have already seen their regular season end, and playoff baseball is beginning to kick off. States including Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia will beginning state playoffs this week while other states such as Florida and California will be wrapping up their seasons soon. Playoff high school baseball can get a bit crazy so there will likely be a lot of movement to make up for only five new schools in this week's update.
