The first High School Top 50 update of the regular season has come and there is a new No. 1 team as IMG Academy (Fla.) has started the season undefeated and wrapped up a championship run during the PG High School Showdown last weekend in Hoover. IMG's dominance coupled with Argyle (Texas) losing their first game in two years allows for IMG to ascend to the No. 1 spot in the country The Ascenders have the headlining talent of PG All-Americans in the trio of Brennan Malone, Rece Hinds and Kendall Williams, though their depth is also outstanding, specifically on the mound where they have allowed only one run this season.

The rest of the top five stays mostly the same as Colleyville Hertiage (Texas), Orange Lutheran (Calif.), and Argyle (Texas) remain and Lake Travis (Texas) joins the top five at No. 3. Lake Travis is led by standout senior Brett Baty who is off to a hot start on the season, as is No. 1 high school prospect Bobby Witt Jr. as the Colleyville shortstop is coming off a week in which he went 16-for-19. Texas is particularly loaded in terms of high school talent in 2019 as in addition to those three teams, Cypress Ranch (Texas) is at No. 8 in the country and is led by PG All-Americans JJ Goss and Matthew Thompson.

With the turnover over the last month, seven new teams have entered the High School Top 50: Doral Academy (Fla.), St. Francis (Calif), Tampa Jesuit (Fla.), Georgetown (Texas), Cypress (Calif.), Vestavia Hills (Ala.) and Nogales (Ariz.). Doral has pitched extremely well thus far, having yet to allow more than two runs in a single game, including a big win over American Heritage, while Tampa Jesuit also had a big upset over Monsignor Pace. St. Francis is off to a 7-0 start behind the strength of standout junior Petey Halpin While Georgetown and Vestavia Hills are already at double-digit wins without having lost yet. Nogales is also undefeated on the season and looks to compete for the top team in the state of Arizona as the season presses on.
