Aflac All Americans and Major Leaguers in 2009

    

16 Aflac All Americans have already played in the Big Leagues.  As of today, here are the Aflac All Americans who have played in the Major Leagues this year..

Nick Adenhart - RHP - Williamsport, MD

14th round by the Angels in 2004 after having TJ surgery earlier that spring, signed for early round money.

2003 Aflac All American

Nick was the very first pitcher to throw in the first Aflac Game.  His 2009 stats stand at 0-0, 0.00 ERA in 6 shutout innings.  That same night he died in a car accident.  Nick Adenhart was a very special pitcher and a more special person.  He will not be forgotten.

 

Justin Upton - OF - Chesapeake, VA

1st pick, 1st round by the D’Backs in 2005

2004 Aflac All American and Jackie Robinson Award winner

2009 Major League Stats with D’Backs

Batting Average. - .321, HR – 13, RBI – 42, OBP - .401, SB - 9

Justin Upton has surfaced as a legitimate star and is having an All Star caliber year

 

Rick Porcello – RHP – West Orange, NJ

1st Round by the Tigers in 2007

2006 Aflac All American

Rick is only 20 years old and a definite front runner for Rookie of the Year honors.  He is among the League leaders in wins with an 8-4 record and a 3.54 ERA.

  

Dexter Fowler - OF - Alpheretta, GA

Drafted in the 14th round, but signed for second round money in 2004

2003 Aflac All American

2009 Major League Stats with Rockies

Batting Average - .269, HR – 3, RBI – 18, OBP - .342, SB – 13

Fowler has become a fulltime starter hitting at the top of the lineup and playing great outfield this year.

  

Andrew McCutchen - OF - Fort Meade, FL

1st round by the Pirates in 2005

2004 Aflac All American

Andrew finally got a well deserved long overdo call up where this year.  As of today he is hitting .333 in 78 at bats for the Pirates.  He is already among the league leaders in triples with 5 and he’s only played in 17 games.

  

Chris Volstad – RHP – Palm Beach Gardens, FL

1st round by the Marlins in 2005

2004 Aflac All American

Chris is 5-7 after 15 starts for the Marlins, he went 6-4 last year.  His lifetime ERA is a respectable 3.83 in 174 innings pitched in the Majors.

 

Brett Anderson – LHP – Stillwater, OK

2nd Round round by the D’Backs, now with the A’s

2005 Aflac All American

Brett has started 13 games for the A’s this year and has a 3-7 record. He’s still only 21 years old.

 

Cameron Maybin – OF – Ashville, NC

1st Round by Tigers in 2005, now with the Marlins

2004 Aflac All American

Cameron has shown brilliance at times and is still adjusting to MLB pitching.  He went 9 for 18 to close out last year, but started this year by hitting .202 in 26 games for the Marlins.  Still young and a big time prospect.

  

Gio Gonzalez – LHP – Hialeah, FL

Drafted 1st round by the White Sox in 2004, now with the A’s

2003 Aflac All American

Gio started the year slowly in two starts with the A’s, but he is tearing up AAA ball lately and should be back up soon.

  

Sean O’Sullivan - RHP – El Cajon, CA

3rd round by the Angels in 2005

2004 Aflac All American

Sean was called up from AAA to start a game for the Angels recently. He pitched 7 innings getting the win giving up only 5 hits and striking out 5.

  

Greg Golson - OF – Austin, TX

Drafted 1st round by the Phillies in 2004,  now with the Rangers

2003 Aflac All American

Greg has played in only one MLB game with the Rangers this year after being called up by the Phillies last year.

  

Homer Bailey – RHP – LaGrange, TX

Drafted 1st round by the Reds in 2004

2003 Aflac All American

Homer has started 18 games for the Reds including two this year with varying results.

  

Eric Hurley – RHP – Jacksonville, FL

1st Round by the Royals in 2004, now with the Rangers

2003 Aflac All American

Eric is 1-2 with the Rangers
