Osmond continues to impress

MARIETTA, Ga. – Bryce Osmond turned in yet another strong performance on the mound Sunday as USA Prime – Gowins took down Power Baseball Navy 2019, 5-3. USA Prime improves to 3-0 with the victory, and they are sitting safely on top of Pool QQ.

Bryce Osmond, who is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, recently burst on to the Perfect Game scene with a dominating performance at the National Showcase. His performance at Tropicana Field earned him one of the biggest rises in the class of 2019 player rankings.



“That [National Showcase] was my first big showing for Perfect Game for that type of event,” said Osmond. “I had been to a showcase right before I started high school, but otherwise we just kind of come to these PG tournaments and try to show out.”

Even though Osmond is an Astros fan himself, he will never forget the opportunity to play at Tropicana Field.

“I knew that going to Tropicana was my big chance to put myself on the radar, and I would say my adrenaline and intensity was at an all-time high,” said Osmond. “Just being in that dugout with so many good baseball players is something you don't do every week.”

Osmond certainly made an impression at the National Showcase, tossing a perfect frame while striking out the side. Osmond was 91-94 with his fastball, and definitely did enough to garner some extra attention at this week’s 17u WWBA National Championship.

Osmond picked up right where he left off on Sunday, working two scoreless frames and striking out four Power Baseball hitters on just 29 pitches. Osmond has a long and athletic frame, and his quick arm impressed the many scouts that were in attendance.

“I was warming up and the guys were walking by the bullpen and saying, ‘there is a lot of guys out there dude you nervous?’ And I just kept telling myself that it was just another day at the park,” said Osmond. “It can hard to not think about it sometimes, but you have to get past it.”

Osmond, who is committed to playing his college baseball at Oklahoma State, is ranked as the 12th-best player in the 2019 class. Growing up an Oklahoma State fan, and living just an hour from campus, Osmond always knew he wanted to grow up and play for the Cowboys.

“My parents went to Oklahoma State, and we are just Pokes, we are Cowboys man,” Osmond said excitedly. “That was one of those things that really drove me toward Oklahoma State from a young age, and I definitely love the coaches up there at Oklahoma State.”

Oklahoma State currently has the 26th-best recruiting class for 2019, and the addition of Osmond certainly helps. Oklahoma State last made a trip to Omaha for the College World Series during the 2016 season.

Osmond has blossomed into one of the most coveted players in the 2019 class, but he didn't always think he would end up even playing baseball. From an early age, Osmond believed a different sport was his calling.

“I always thought I was going to end up playing football,” said Osmond. “I believed I was going to play Division I football in college, and getting into high school I kind of hit that mark where it was time to pick one or the other. I was really successful in both sports, and I liked them a ton, but baseball started to show that it would be more my thing. I stuck with baseball and here we are.”

This 17u WWBA National Championship can be stressful for a potential draft pick. While the scouts and high-pressure outings are new to Osmond, he is just trying to have fun with the game he fell in love with.

“You don't want let this big situations get the most of you,” said Osmond. “You get out there and you do your thing, but at the end of the day it’s baseball, it's a game.  Just go out there and have fun and compete, and that's my mentality with a lot of it. We just try to have fun and have a good time while we’re out here.”

USA Prime – Gowins is having a blast at 3-0 in the 17u WWBA National Championship, and Bryce Osmond is making the most of every opportunity. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see both have success as a result.
