JUCO Top 25: May 1 | Top 250 Junior College Prospects

We are officially into playoff mode for the vast majority of JUCO's across the country, and this coming weekend will mark when we'll really start to see the cream rise to the top as bids to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado (for D-I) will start to be earned.

The top four teams stay the same this week, with Walters State (Tenn.) holding steady at the No. 1 spot, as they have run their record to a tremendous 51-6 overall. San Joaquin Delta (Calif.) remains No. 2 after their opening round playoff series win, Wabash Valley remains at No. 3 and San Jacinto (Texas) holds strong at No. 4. LSU-Eunice jumped up a couple spots to No. 5, their highest ranking of the year, and by far the highest ranking of any NJCAA D-II member, after they took a pair of games from Chipola this past weekend.

Connors State (Okla.) holds steady at No. 6, while South Mountain (Ariz.) checks in at No. 7. They have a huge playoff series this weekend with Arizona Western in a matchup of two highly-ranked teams. Cisco (Texas) continues to win and have climbed all the way to No. 8, while No. 9 Florence-Darlington is, as of this writing, locked in a playoff duel with USC-Sumter. Chipola (Fla.) slipped to No. 10 this week, but all bets are off in Florida with the start of the state tournament coming in just a couple days.

Iowa Western is 47-5 and, by checking in at No. 11 this week, is the highest ranked they've been all season. McLennan (Texas) got back on the winning track and jumped a couple of spots this week to No. 15. Arizona Western swept their playoff series with Central Arizona, vaulting them all the way up to No. 16 this week, and they have a chance to climb even higher if they can knock off No. 7 South Mountain this weekend. Ohlone (Calif.) continues to roll at 36-6, and they also jumped several spots this week, all the way up to No. 18.

Just one newcomer this week in Wallace State (Ala.), checking in at No. 25. Alabama is especially interesting right now, as teams 23-25 all hail from The Yellowhammer State, as Chattahoochee Valley is at No. 23 and Wallace-Dothan checks in at No. 24 to join Wallace State at the back end of the list. That's going to be an especially intriguing region to watch and see how it all shakes out.

It's a very fascinating year in JUCO baseball, with only a few teams seemingly distancing themselves, and it's really anyone's game in most of the regions across the country in terms of who has a chance to earn that coveted bid to Grand Junction. Make sure you're following along.

Rankings are based on games through Sunday, May 6.
