2018 Preseason Junior College Top 25 Team Reports

1. San Jacinto
The preseason No. 1 team in the Top 50 JuCo Rankings, San Jac heads into the season with a seemingly absurd level of depth, both on the mound and in the lineup. While they won't place any single prospects in the top 10-15 or so of the Top 150 prospects list (to be released Friday), they have that level of depth that places double-digit players in the overall list. Led on the mound by Jacob Cantleberry as the ace, the rest of the staff should figure itself out quickly given the talent level, including arms like Aaron George, Reid Morgan, Devon Roedahl and Trey Dillard, among many others. The everyday lineup may challenge for one of the most potent in recent memory, led by former Perfect Game All-American Herbert Iser behind the plate, to go along with Sergio Macias, Alerick Soularie, Peter Zimmerman, Nick Neville and Matt Goodheart. Quite simply, San Jac boast an absolutely loaded roster. 

2. Chipola
The reigning National Champions, and perhaps one of the greatest junior college teams of all time in 2017 that saw 10 players drafted, Chipola has a lot to replace in 2018, but coach Jeff Johnson has the talent to make a run at a repeat. They shouldn't have a problem scoring runs, with Edmond Americaan and Morgan McCullough setting the table for boppers like Max Guzman. They are very deep behind the plate, with the aforementioned Guzman to go along with Alex Webb and Austin Bates. On the mound, sophomore Trevor Holloway is one of the top JuCo prospects, and mid-year transfers Jack Dellinger and Phillip Sanderson should both help the rotation. Any time a program loses 10 players to the draft alone, not to mention other contributors like Trey Dawson, who transferred to Kentucky, there will likely be growing pains, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a coaching staff and a talent base better suited to weather that storm than those found at Chipola. 

3. Walters State
Any time you have a legitimate star on the roster you have a chance, and when the surrounding talent is as strong as the one Walters State surrounds stud shortstop Hunter Wolfe with, you have the makings of a Top 5 program. Walters State is unique in that they have the ability to put an entire 1-9 lineup on the field of players who have signed to a Power 5 school, whether that be signed at present to continue their careers or previously signed to said schools out of high school. Hayden Lehman leads the way on the mound, a South Carolina signee, with outstanding pitchability and good stuff, and he's the 1A to Payton Alford's 1B, as the lefty Alford led the team in strikeouts a year ago. Along with those three, watch out for Duncan Pence on MLB Draft radars, as toolsed-up third basemen with raw pop and arm strength don't usually wait too long to hear their names called during the draft if they perform in-season.
