Beavan Is Perfect!


Blake Beavan 6-7/210 RHP from Irving, TX. high school is presently ranked #9 by pgcrosschecker.com in the 2007 national rankings. However, that is starting to look like too low of a ranking.

Perfect Game selected Beavan as an Aflac All American last year and he was ranked as one of the top talents at last year’s Perfect Game National Showcase in Fayetteville Arkansas.

Beavan also pitched for the USA Junior National team last year and dominated in a USA victory over Cuba.

One of his best performances ever, came this week as he threw a Perfect Game in his 3rd high school appearance of the spring. Beavan struckout 18 and retired the other three hitters on harmless groundballs. His fastball was clocked from 92 to 95 mph, touching 96 as he overpowered MacArthur high school. Beavan’s fastball is obviously a plus pitch, but his slider might be even better. He throws a very sharp, late breaking, mid 80s slider that’s a real knockout pitch. Beavan fanned 14 MacArthur hitters in a row, before giving up a ground ball.

Reports from Texas tell us Beavan is now 3-0 on the young season with 46 Ks, 0 walks, he has only given up 2 hits and has a “perfect” 0.00 ERA.

Blake Beavan was one of the top high school prospects in the nation entering his final high school season. It’s looking like he has somehow managed to get even better over the winter.

Another big RHP in the south is moving up the list in a hurry.

Taylor Martin 6-5/215 RHP from St Michael’s high school in Baton Rouge Louisiana is making a claim to be the top draft pick from that state. Carmen Angelini shortstop from Barbe high school has been the #1 ranked player in Louisiana for the past year.

Martin has pitched in a few Perfect Game events and was touching 90-91 in last summers 17U WWBA championship. He has gained some strength over the winter and now he’s throwing up to 94 mph and showing three quality pitches. The word is he’s got a chance to go in the first couple rounds now. Scouts are following him closely. He signed early with LSU.

Eagerly waiting for Justin Grimm

Justin Grimm, 6-4/175 RHP from Virginia high school in Bristol Virginia put on quite a show at the PG indoor showcase held earlier this winter in Cedar Rapids Iowa. It was his first time back on a mound since rehabbing from an injury.

Grimm has a lightening fast arm that works easily. Before his injury he was throwing 94 and we had scouts telling us he was the top pitcher on the East Coast. Those are big words because the East Coast is loaded with high draft prospect pitchers. After watching Grimm in Iowa, there’s very little doubt in our mind, that by mid season he will be mid 90s if he stays healthy.

You can add the Name Justin Grimm to the list that includes other top ranked pitchers from the east coast, like Porcello, Harvey, Ramirez, McGuery, Smoker, Danieli, Bumgarner, and many others, especially from Florida.




Duffy Making a Move

California seems to always pump out high draft prospects. Most become very well known early on and some come on a bit later like Greg Miller a couple years ago. The guy who has climbed the charts this year is Dan Duffy a 6-3/190 lefty from Cabrillo high school in Lompoc California. He showed low 90s with a good change up and killer slider at the PG California All Star Games this winter.
