Eric Thomas is an exciting two-way prospect from Gainesville, Florida. He’s listed at 5'11", 170 lbs., but looks bigger in his uniform. On the mound, Thomas throws from a simple leg lift delivery with a hard front side that he spins off of a bit. He has a quick, short arm circle and really accelerates his arm through to the plate well. It’s worth noting that his stuff is better from the stretch. Thomas’s fastball started off at 83-84 mph during his first inning, but was a solid 86 mph from the stretch during his second inning of work. It’s a very live fastball, with lots of late sinking action. Thomas was primarily a fastball pitcher in Fort Myers, and threw about a half dozen 75 mph sliders that were decent. He’ll definitely need to improve his secondary pitches in the future. With his athleticism and live arm, it’s very easy to project Thomas as a 90 mph hurler in the future. As a position player, Thomas is an easy 7.1 runner who throws 88 mph from the outfield. He generates very good bat speed with a very nice rhythm and load to start his swing. You can see Thomas’s raw power potential despite his wiry frame, and the ball jumps off his bat in a hurry. Thomas is a very good athlete with good tools and a high ceiling. Eric is a good student too.
