Levi Huesman, LHP, Hanover HS (Va.)

Hanover’s ace continued his meteoric rise up the draft boards as he dazzled Wednesday night against in-country rival, Atlee High School. The Hawks’ bats gave Huesman plenty of cushion to work with in the first couple innings, as if he needed it. Striking out the first 9 batters he faced, Huesman was virtually untouchable all night. Tossing of run-rule aided no-hitter, Huesman ended his night with 13 strikeouts, allowing only two baserunners in the fourth from a fielding error and hit-by-pitch. Flipping in his slider for strikes often, the Coastal Carolina signee generated tons of swings and misses all night, keeping Atlee’s hitters off balance. With excellent feel for his slider, the pitch displayed horizontal and vertical depth as he threw it in the 74-78 mph range throughout the night. Eleven of Huesman’s strikeouts would come from a swing-and-miss, continually overpower powering hitters with his mid-90s fastball. Coming out strong in the first inning, sitting 93-94 mph, the athletic left-hander grabbed a 95 to end the frame. Cruising at 92-94 for the remainder of his outing, to finish off the final batter of his performance, Huesman reached back as he blew two 95 mph heaters past the hitter.
