Stars Marucci '27 Loaded and Poised

Expectations naturally follow one of the nation’s top ranked teams.

For Stars Marucci 2027, those expectations have only grown as the summer season has progressed. 



Ranked No. 16 nationally and featuring a roster loaded with Division I commits and nationally ranked prospects, Stars Marucci 2027 entered the 2026 Perfect Game 17U National Elite Championship as one of the top teams to watch. 

Through the opening two days of the tournament, they have shown why they are a team to watch, opening the week with back-to-back victories over SBA Tucci 2027 (6-1) and FC Twins Scout (5-2) to build early momentum heading into the later rounds. 

The talent on the roster is undeniable. 

Virginia Tech commits Chase Colangelo, Yogi Colangelo, and Teagan Leach, Maryland commit Jerome Fortier, and Youngstown State commit Sam Capuano headline a group filled with college bound talent, but according to the coaching staff, success this week has come from something much simpler than rankings or recruitments.

“I think we are doing a good job of kind of putting anybody in together,” the Stars Marucci assistant coach Brad Weeks said following the team’s second win. “These are long games, it’s a grind, there’s weather, there’s emotion, and I think we’re doing a good job of staying in the moment and just focusing on the next pitch.” 

That mindset has shown throughout the tournament. 

In the opening game against SBA Tucci 2027, Stars Marucci relied on contributions from throughout the lineup. Jerome Fortier drove in two runs, Chase Colangelo and Ryan Vaxmonsky each added an RBI, while Camden Weeks, Connor Pollock, and Teagan Leach all collected hits to help push through to a 6-1 victory. On the mound, Top 400 prospect Sam Szefc turned in an impressive performance, throwing five innings with only two hits before Tyler Mills closed out the win. 
Game two required a different approach. 

Facing FC Twins Scout, the Stars once again leaned on their depth. Top 500 prospect Yogi Colangelo sparked the offense by scoring twice and lacing a double, while Landen Fisher and Mateo Enrique Harvey Olivo each drove in a run. On the mound, High Follow prospect Francisco Rodriguez Jr. steadied the game with 4.2 innings of only two hits and scoreless relief, helping secure the team’s second victory of the tournament. Capuano and Ian Sullivan also contributed quality innings as Stars Marucci 2027 continued to show the value of its pitching staff. 

For a roster filled with nationally recognized players, maintaining perspective has been just as important as producing on the field. 

“I think you said it,” assistant coach Brad Weeks said when asked about balancing expectations. “It is about staying in the moment and kind of being where your feet are. We get to play at really good locations, and bottom line it’s just baseball. No matter what is ahead for these guys, we just try to stay focused on competing and being the best version of ourselves, and we did that again today.”

It’s a message that reflects the team’s approach throughout the week. While college commitments and national rankings naturally draw attention, Stars Marucci 2027 has relied on consistent execution and contributions from every corner of the roster rather than individual star power. 

Even after two victories, the coaching staff believes the team’s best baseball still lies ahead. 

“We’ve got to play a complete game,” assistant coach Weeks said. “We have not done that yet. We are capable of playing really well, but we have not played a complete game yet. We have done enough to win, but this team has got a lot more in front of it, and I think we are going to reach our potential this week for sure.” 

With momentum building and bracket play right around the corner, Stars Marucci 2027 has already demonstrated why they entered Hoover as one of the nation’s top 17U teams. Powered by an impressive roster of college commits, quality pitching, and a team-first mentality, the Stars have positioned themselves for another strong run while remaining focused on the next pitch rather than the expectations that surround them.

A tightly contested battle between Canes Florida 2029 and Florida Flames 16u capped the 16U Florida Elite Championship, with the Canes earning a 6-5 walk-off win on Monday at JetBlue Park Stadium. “It means a lot to this team specifically because this is their first win as a group,” Canes head coach Alec Bettinger said. “We’ve come up short a couple times, so seeing one go through the hoop here is really nice for the boys.” The Canes defense came out hot, led by Cannon Tyler who started on the mound for the Canes.
