13u World Series Notes: Days 1-2

Michael Wedgeworth (2030, Flomaton, AL) had put the two way ability on full display so far this week, dominating from both sides. On the mound Wedgeworth ran the fastball up to 84 (81-83) with ease to the delivery. Broke off a couple nasty curveballs that induced swing and miss, as well as freezing hitters for punch outs. Collected six in his four inning complete game. He also would not be denied at the plate going 3-5 in the first two days with two doubles. Very intriguing young player as the body continues to grow. 

Tyler Bellush (2031, Summerville, SC) is a sure handed shortstop for the Canes Nation squad. Swings it from the left side of the plate and the barrel accuracy has really stuck out thus far. 3-4 through the first couple days with a double and two triples, Bellush has also walked twice and collected 3 RBI along the way. Yesterday against USA Prime with the bases loaded, Bellush demolished a bases clearing double off of the right field wall. Showed some real comfort in the stroke and works inside the baseball with quickness to the hands. 



Sawyer Campbell (2030, Mesa, AZ) showed some of the power through two games, hammering doubles in each game. Makes good adjustments with the hands in the box to deliver the barrel and has yet to be out matched. Short and compact stroke with some present power in the turn. Campbell also hopped on the mound in game one and topped out at 80 while striking out a pair. 

King James (2031, Cincinnati, OH) has been very productive thus far this week, getting it done on both sides of the ball. Hitting .500 through two games this week and has driven in one. Uses the lower half well in the box and has been all over the barrel through two games. Also hopped on the mound in relief against Middle Tennessee Stingers and took advantage. Punched out seven on his way to a 3.2 inning win. Worked up to 79 with the fastball and filled up the zone at 60% strikes. 

Ryan Spann (2031, Tifton, GA) showed off the athleticism on the double header day going 3-4 with two singles, and a laser triple into center field. 6’0/165 pound left handed hitter with present strength in the turn and works to the middle of the field in the approach. Keeps the hands tight to the body on the backside and uses his length well to extend through it. Super clean and repeatable swing with real projection.

Tyler Ballard (2031, Jackson, NJ) has had a tremendous start to his tournament racking up four hits, highlighted by a walk-off single in his team’s first pool play game. The right-handed hitter showcases a lean and athletic build with outstanding bat-to-ball skills. Ballard has also showed off his run producing ability early, driving in three runs in just two games.

Beckett DeSerio (2031, Greer, SC) has put together an impressive offensive performance through his first two games, collecting four hits, two extra-base hits, and two RBI. DeSerio showcases a physical, athletic build that generates tons of bat speed through the zone and power to all parts of the ballpark. 

Cooper Ooten (2031, Ringgold, GA) showcased his intriguing two-way upside in his game this afternoon, making an impact on both sides of the ball. At the plate, Ooten collected 3 hits with 2 RBI showcasing a short and compact swing that sprayed line drives to all parts of the field. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher tossed two scoreless innings, striking out three, and allowing 0 hits. The fastball sat in the 80-81 mph range while mixing in a dirty breaking ball that had hitters lost all outing long.

Joshua Garcia (2030, Mcallen, TX) turned in an impressive two-way performance for his team this morning. At the plate he collected two hits, highlighted by a long double, while also showing his clutch gene driving in three runs. Versatile build that made high quality contact all game long. On the mound the right-hander tossed two scoreless innings, striking out two, and allowing zero runs. The fastball ran all the way up to 80 mph while showing tremendous feel for the breaking ball landing it for strikes in any count.

Cody Keister (2030, Annandale, NJ) has delivered a complete offensive performance thus far, tallying three hits, two doubles, five RBI, three runs scored, while showcasing the speed tool swiping two stolen bases. Keister showcased a direct, efficient bat path that consistently found the barrel, producing hard contact with tremendous gap-to-gap power.

Jeremiah Dorsey (2031, Woodsboro, MD) has proven to be a tough out for pitchers through his first two games. The 5’11 165 pound right-handed hitter has collected 4 hits including a double, and 5 RBI while also coming around to score 4 runs of his own. The lower half works really well and produces a ton of power to all parts of the fields. Also has displayed plus bat speed with fast and strong hands. 

Joshua Abikarram (2031, Groveland, Fla.) has made a huge impact at the plate for his team thus far. The 5’9 170 pound right-handed hitter has produced five hits, two of which being extra-base hits, and 5 RBI through two games. Gets the hands in a good position early, and fires hard with the lower half. Showed the ability to hit it where it’s pitched and use the entire field. 

Rocco Lamotte (2030, San Francisco, CA) the 6’0 175 pound left-handed hitter is off to a hot start through two games. Racked up four hits and three RBI’s through two games, while also scoring three runs of his own. The tall, strong frame translates well to the batters box, with great bat to ball skills and present power to all fields. Loads deep into the legs and whips the barrel through the zone hard. 

Johnny Byrd (2031, Fort Myers, Fla.) has proven to be a problem for opposing pitchers so far. The 6’2 165 pound right-handed hitter has collected three hits in four at-bats, including a double, and three RBI through two games. Features a tall and athletic frame with a quick and accurate barrel. Gets good extension through the zone and keeps the barrel on plane. 

Jake Beleckis (2030, Land O’ Lakes, Fla.) took the mound and got the win against Ghost National 13u. His fastball sat in the low-80s with some natural arm side run, running it up to 82, complemented well with a tight curveball in the low-70s. He collected six strikeouts, and only allowed three hits in three innings of work. Fluid arm action with good extension down the mound. Confidently worked both sides of the plate with both pitches.

Pokers Rally to Capture 16U BCS Title A hot afternoon at JetBlue Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida ended in a 9-1 victory for the Original Florida Pokers 2028 National, defeating SBA Bolts Florida 2028 National on Monday to capture the 16U BCS National Championship. A pitchers’ duel kept the game scoreless through four innings before the Pokers broke it open with a five-run fifth inning. The title marked the Pokers’ second 16U BCS Championship, adding to the championship they won in 2022. For the fourth time since its inception in 2023, two rosters comprised of the best rising juniors (and a handful of rising sophomores) will step out onto the field Friday afternoon, kicking off the All-American weekend.
