USA Prime Claims 17U Title in Thriller

USA Prime Tampa Scout 2027 edged VSA Scout 17U 4-3 Monday afternoon, using strong defense and a walk-off RBI from Bryce Flemming to secure the title.

A light breeze helped cool down an otherwise warm afternoon at JetBlue Park during the championship game. USA Prime jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning to apply early pressure on VSA. VSA responded behind relief pitcher Finlee Crowder, who settled the game down after entering in the second inning and helped keep his team within reach as the game turned into a back-and-forth battle.



VSA eventually battled back to tie the game at 3-3, but several momentum-shifting defensive plays from USA Prime catcher Marcello Fraccola helped preserve the tie throughout the middle innings.

“I feel like a huge motivator on the team,” Fraccola said. “The catcher is a big position on the field. You have to make plays. People have trust in you, and that’s what I’m out here doing.”

One of the game’s biggest moments came in the top of the fourth inning when VSA had bases loaded with no outs. With a chance to take the lead, a collision at the plate between Fraccola and a VSA baserunner resulted in a crucial out that sparked three consecutive defensive stops for USA Prime, ending the inning scoreless and keeping the game tied.

Fraccola continued to make an impact defensively in both the fifth and sixth innings, recording multiple outs at the plate while working alongside a strong infield defensive effort to prevent VSA from capitalizing on scoring opportunities.

VSA’s defense answered in the sixth inning as well. A strong play in right field from Tyson Robles helped start a rundown that ended with the catcher and third baseman combining for the final out of the inning, sending the game into the seventh tied 3-3.

Fraccola capped off an impressive all-around performance in the seventh inning. In the top half, he threw out a runner attempting to steal third base.

“It could have been a game winning run,” Fraccola said. “I threw him out at third. Let them know it’s not happening here.”

He led off the bottom of the inning with a single. Later in the inning, Flemming delivered the game-winning RBI to bring Fraccola home and secure the championship victory for USA Prime.

“It meant a lot,” Fraccola said. “I worked my tail off today and it felt amazing to step on that plate and win the game.”

Flemming finished 1-2 in the championship game and hit .500 over four games during the tournament.

Mason Stout led the USA Prime offense by going 2-3 with a double. Emmanuel Baez also contributed offensively, going 1-1. Both added an RBI.

Nathan Wainwright started on the mound for USA Prime, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings. Roy (Trae) Ambler provided key relief work, allowing three hits across 1.2 innings while striking out two batters.

For VSA, Alan Sanchez went 2-3 with an RBI, while Andres Chavez and Eduardo Vadia each recorded two hits in the loss.

One of the top performers of the tournament was USA Prime’s Hayden Pelegrin, who collected three doubles, seven stolen bases and three RBIs throughout the tournament.

“I feel like the swing was there the whole game,” Pelegrin said. “I didn’t really miss any pitches.”

Batting with a .571 average, Pelegrin stayed hot at the plate and earned MVP honors in the championship game.

“It means the world,” Pelegrin said. “It’s a great award. Winning it is just awesome.”

USA Prime head coach Deshun Bolling emphasized one characteristic that led to his team’s success.

“It’s all about resilience,” he said. “Not putting our heads down and wanting to get through it, putting good swings on the ball and staying with our approach. These guys are just the most resilient group. Our motto is all it takes is one swing.”

Bolling hand-selected the roster from a group of 180 players. This tournament was their first time playing together, and their coach was very impressed with the team dynamic.

“Just to see the team gel and have that camaraderie, it’s amazing,” Bolling said.

He called the championship victory “the best feeling in the world.”

Cape Cod League Scouting Notebook  Maverick Rizy | Ole Miss | RHP | Brewster Whitecaps  The towering 6-foot-9, 250-pound right-hander continues to stand out with one of the more unique looks on the Cape, pairing a massive frame with a low three-quarter slot that creates difficult angles for hitters. While his fastball velocity was down from its typical mid-90s range during this look, working mostly 90-92 mph, it still generated plenty of swing-and-miss. He paired the heater with an 81-83 mph gyro slider featuring tight bullet-spin action and mixed in an 85-mph changeup with quality separation. This Friday through Sunday, many of the nation’s top young prospects from the classes of 2030 and 2031 will head to Fort Myers, Florida, as the 2026 PG 13U National Showcase gets underway at JetBlue Park. The invitation-only event features some of the brightest young stars in the country as they look to make their way onto the national stage. The 21st annual 14U BCS National Championship returns to Fort Myers, Florida this Thursday through Monday, bringing many of the nation’s top teams to compete for one of the summer’s premier titles. Seven nationally ranked teams, featuring some of the top prospects in the class of 2030, will take the field looking to prove why they rank among the country’s elite. Headlining the field is No. 25-ranked outfielder James Watson of Canton, Georgia. The No. 9 outfielder in the nation has been one of the most productive hitters in the field this season, posting a 1.227 OPS while batting .394 with eight home runs, 69 RBI and 32 stolen bases over 84 games.
