East Memorial Day Scout Notes

Baron Brownlee (29, Ormond Beach, FL) was dominating at the plate, batting .857 with two doubles, an RBI, and an impressive .917 on-base percentage throughout the tournament. He is physical in terms of his size at 6’3/150 but still can put more weight on to generate more power to his contact. His simple, quick-handed swing and advanced plate discipline profile him as a high-contact leadoff hitter for his team.

Eli Cruz (29, Tampa, FL) showcased elite all-field power, batting .444 with 3 triples and 5 RBI. A high-contact, gap-to-gap hitter, he stays balanced in the box, lets pitches travel deep, and consistently barrels baseballs to all sectors. His ability to drive off-speed pitching makes him a polished offensive threat and hard to strike him out with off-speed pitches.

Landon Thompson (29, Bartow, FL) was an impressive performer in this tournament. He was batting .800 with two doubles and a triple. The 5’11/185 slugger pairs advanced bat speed with a rhythmic, full-body swing, staying inside pitches to maximize impact. His athleticism and plate coverage allow him to drive velocity and spin, also creating many quality at-bats when he is in the box.

Kade Nemitz (29, Ormond Beach, FL) was one of the most fundamental hitters in this tournament, batting .571 with a double and driving in 6 runs in this 4 games weekend. He lined a double to the right center gap, head stayed at the pitch with great extension of his bat. Overall, Nemitz has a very smooth and balanced swing with plus bat-to-ball skills and the ability to square up the pitches well.

Genaro Santana (29, Kissimmee, FL) is a strong, physical slugger and he was batting .375 with a double in this tournament. His compact, explosive swing leverages elite lower-half torque and a short bat path to generate easy pull-side juice, while quick hands and a disciplined load allow him to punish elevated fastballs to all fields.

Alvaro Diaz (29, Kissimmee, FL) Had a good week collecting 6 hits including 2 doubles. Has a good swing with quick hands and a strong base. Threat on the bases as well, stealing 3 bases.

Fabian Cruz (28, Kissimmee, FL) Had a very good week at the plate racking up 5 hits including a double and two triples. Quick, compact, down plane stroke, barrels line drives from foul pole to foul pole.

Finn Gillespie (29, Starke, FL) Has a strong week at the plate collecting 7 hits and 4 RBI. Simple, repeatable line drive stroke with good feel for the barrel. Stays short to ball and drives pitches from gap to gap.

Ernest Ballaron (29, Hialeah, FL)  Hit the ball well this week collecting 5 hits including a double and a triple. Level, compact swing with good bat speed. Hands stay inside and through the ball with good extension.

Kevin Bailey (29, Mims, FL) had himself a good week collecting 6 hits with 2 triples. Consistently puts barrel on ball and works counts. Good plate coverage, uses whole field.

Lawson Abeles (29, Sarasota FL) His strong frame with a tight compact swing allows for easy contact as he racked up 5 hits this weekend and 3 RBI. He was a workhorse behind the plate and also stole 4 bags.

Lukas Klipper (29, Clearwater FL) The disciplined LHH had a solid weekend with 4 hits with a double and a triple. He also walked 3 times and scored 6 runs for his squad. With his fast, and twitchy hands he generates easy pop and bat speed.

Nathan Handley-White (29, Bradenton FL) The Select Festival alum had no problem this weekend finding barrels, he had 5 hits with a double and a triple racking up 6 RBI. His 6’1 210 frame allows for some whip in the bat with heavy hands.

Zachary Kilian (29, Deltona FL) The tall RHH swung it well totaling 5 hits, 2 doubles and a triple. Plated 6 runs and displayed a good feel for the strike zone walking 3 times. Gets into the back hip in his load and rips the hands through the zone generating some loud contact.

Mason Frey (29, Tampa FL) The 6’1 outfielder was on the barrel this weekend with 4 hits, 2 doubles, and a sac fly. Loads well into the back hip and lets the hands go with good extension. Holds his angles throughout the swing and stays in the legs well.
