College Top 25: May 12

Another week, another shakeup and we have yet another new team occupying the pinnacle of the Top-25 poll. The No. 1 LSU Tigers (40-12) have won 3 of their last 4 SEC series and took down now No. 7 Arkansas (41-11) in Baton Rouge last weekend. With their pitching performing as well as it has all season and the length of their lineup challenging opponents, the Tigers are clicking on a cylinders heading into the final week of the regular season.

Other clubs had fantastic weeks as well, with the new No. 2 Auburn Tigers (36-15) ascending to their highest ranking of the season after sweeping South Carolina and riding the top strength-of-schedule in the nation. Meanwhile, the Oregon Ducks (38-13) are up to No. 3 after winning 5-games last week and will play for the Big Ten regular season title against Iowa to end the season starting Thursday. No. 6 Florida State (36-11) continues to trend upward after winning their series at Cal and now have a half-game lead in the ACC standings. Not to be outdone, Coastal Carolina (41-11) keeps winning games and makes their debut in the Top-10 at No. 10 as they hold on to a 2-game lead in the Sun Belt.

In one of the biggest shifts in weeks, we have three new entrants into the Top-25 as teams that have been just on the outside have taken advantage of other teams’ downward spiral. The Florida Gators (35-18) jump in at No. 20 as they have won 5-consecutive SEC series and all the sudden are back in the hosting conversation. No. 21 Southern Miss (38-13) is only 2-games out of 1st in the Sun Belt, having won 5-series in a row and have reeled off 12-consective at this point. Finally, the Northeastern Huskies (41-9) ride their incredible 20-game win streak to No. 25 in the poll this week and have already wrapped up the CAA regular season title.
