What Happened: USF dropped two of three games at home to a nationally ranked Maryland team to open their 2023 season. The Bulls made a magical run to the Super Regionals in 2021 but have struggled mostly over the last few seasons, including that 2021 season where they ultimately finished .500.

Carrying Tool: Offensive power. Drew Brutcher is going to get to double digit home runs at some point this season while Daniel Cantu also has solid power from the left side. This is an offense over pitching team right now and there’s room for optimism with their young core of sophomores in Marcus Brodil, Jackson Mayo, and Bobby Boser.

Concerns: Quality pitching. Hunter Mink has moved from closer to Friday night starter, something they tried last year with Orion Kerkering, but the rest of the starting staff were upper-80s strike throwers. They have some guys with big arms and the development of those young arms will be key.

Best Player on the Field: Daniel Cantu. The senior left-handed hitter led the team in hitting over the weekend and is the vocal, senior leader on this club. Drew Brutcher is the top prospect here and had the most impressive swing of the weekend for this club, but Cantu will be a huge piece of this team moving forward.

DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: April 17
While there was a lot of action across the country last week, the big news out of the small school divisions occurred in the NAIA.

Chase Morgan of Louisiana was outstanding on the mound as he struck out 11 over 8 while Tyler Bishop hit for the cycle for Omaha this past weekend.
