The first weekend of the 2023 college baseball season is in the books, and it was quite a ride. LSU lived up to their other worldly expectations in a three-game sweep of Western Michigan. Tigers ace, Paul Skenes punched out 12 in his 6-inning debut, joining teammate Dylan Crews as potential top of the 1st round picks in this year’s MLB Draft.

While the teams in the top-5 are the same there was a bit of a shuffle as Tennessee drops to No. 5 after their challenging West Coast swing. That means Stanford moves to No. 2 after battling resurgent Cal State Fullerton on the road and winning 2 of 3, including Sunday’s extra-inning slugfest by a score of 21-13. Arkansas ascends to No. 3 after a successful weekend in the College Baseball Showdown, winning 2 of 3 in Arlington, TX. Finally, the high-powered bats of Wake Forest led the way to a 4-0 weekend as they launched 13 home runs and scored 45 runs.

TCU is one of the bigger movers on the strength of their performance in Arlington as well, blowing out Vandy and Arkansas, landing at No. 9 this week. The other team that has some real helium is Southern Miss on the heels of their sweep of Liberty where they only allowed 3 runs and 1 extra-base hit all weekend. Texas will be the only team dropping from the top-25 this week as they start the season 0-3. Texas State enters the poll and occupies the No. 24 spot after sweeping Northwestern, scoring an eye-popping 54 runs on the weekend with a .437 BA and .514 OBP as a team.

Week 2 is shaping up to be just as eventful as last week, with some Power-5 East Coast vs. West Coast matchups and the annual Round Rock Classic. We will have our scouts scouring the country, so be sure to follow all the action.
