Jupiter Scout Notes: Day 1

On the night before Jupiter, we’ve traditionally had some JUCO games take place on the Marlins quad, and this year we were able to see some serious power arms from Indian River State and Palm Beach State.


Gavin Adams (IRSC, Soph.) was electric in his one inning showcase-style outing, running his fastball up to 96 mph and blowing it right by hitters. Adams is a long and lean righty who is already committed to Florida State for the 2024 season, and it’s easy to see what FSU liked so much early on this cycle. The arm speed is plus and stands way out, and in a one inning look he showed the makings of some lateral command. His slider is thrown in the 82-83 mph range with good tilt and some length to the shape, finding the release on a few of them and showing above-average, and the pitch has bat-miss upside moving forward. It was a quick, explosive look.
